Post by: glasseyed on September 07, 2011, 02:15:17 PM
Hi

I have a beautiful signed Nuutajarvi bowl with an Arabia label, I would like to know the name of the designer. Can anyone help?

Thankyou

Hazel

Sorry Hazel but cannot see it - I get "page not found" from your link.  Can you post the photo here?

Looks like a nice piece of glass!
Is the pink Neodymium?

If it is signed a pic of the signature might help :D

Hi Rocco

The signature just reads Nuutajarvi Notsjo and is in the same style as other Nuutajarvi signatures I have seen. I'm not sure if the outer violet/pink layer is Neodymium but its fantastic the way the violet glass sits over the aqua glass like a petal. It must have required a considerable amount of skill to make :P

Hi Hazel,  it would be nice to see the signature anyway as not all of us know what 'other Nuutajarvi signatures' look like, some members are very new and these later posts are the ones they will be learning from.

If you take the bowl from an ordinary incandescent light (or daylight) into a room with neon lighting like a kitchen fluorescent light, or even an energy saving light bulb, you will see the colour change from pink to a lavender blue if the glass is neodymium.

Also, if you put the pictures onto this link instead of linking to your picasa album, we can see the pictures as we read your text, and quickly refer back as new replies are added to the thread.

What a lot of advice from a relative newbie....... but it does look a lovely bowl and I am sure you will get lots of info from other members.

Hi Rosie

I will add a picture tomorrow (on the horrid horrid cold sick list at the moment   so have to stay in bed).

The bowl does indeed change colour under my bedside energy saving light bulb so it would seem it is noedymium. (Always more to learn)..................... :phew:

      Hazel your bowl has a whole level of sophistication that my vase does not have.  BUT mine is ARABIA series as well.  It is by Kaj Franck (see Photos).

I do not know if the Arabia series was designed completely by Kaj Franck - but looking at the quality difference between my piece and yours I would suggest not.  Can't get any help from the usual sources I use, so good luck.

The Arabia label doesn't mean a quality difference -- all Nuutajärvi glass was sold under that brand name for a certain time (Lesley Jackson states this label was used 1971-77 and 1983-87; after 1992 their glass was sold under the Iittala brand name).

Hi Hazel,  sorry you are poorly. :srn:
Just when you are feeling 'more betterer' is fine.....in the meantime, look after yourself, rest and have some nice honey and lemon drinks. :fwr:

Hi All

I am feeling a little better today - what a yukky cold and cough :thud:

I have the answer - I did a post on the designlasi.com forum (Finnish) and here is the reply I received.

Designer Heikki Orvola, name Kukka (Flower) or Tulppaani (Tulip), the latter name might be given by fans and watchers

I have been meaning to look up this bowl for about two years (needed time off in bed to spur me on - maybe colds have a purpose after all).  :24:

Thanks for your help, Rosie, Ross and Michael (picture of the signature now with the others).
