Hi group! I sell mostly vintage jewelry and collectibles, my ex-in-laws collected and sold glass for years so I have a very small amt of knowledge. I am looking for a site that has illustrations or pics of glass stamps or hallmarks. Is there such a thing?
I have a carnival glass banana (fruit) bowl that has a stamp on the inside of the bowl. I have pretty good pics of the stamp but if there is lettering in it, I can't make it out. Perhaps someone here can.
There are several versions of this bowl on eBay right now but none mention a mark so this may be the original that those are reproduced from. Some say they think it is Imperial Harvest Grape but none mention a mark and I did find a site for Imperial marks and this mark does not resemble any.

The "Harvest (Grape)" pattern is by Indiana Glass, not Imperial. I'm not aware of those pieces being trademarked, so it certainly would be very interesting to see your photos. Indiana's Carnival was made in the 1970s, so you wouldn't have an earlier carnival version of that pattern, as there wasn't one.
But we need the photos of the piece and the mark to help you :lol:

A picture of your mark would still be interesting to see no matter what. Westmoreland Glass also made a grapes pattern and many of their items are being reproduced in Carnival glass by other makers. One of these makers is Rosso, who uses a number of, but altered old Westmoreland marks.

The item is undoubtedly what Indiana themselves called "Oval Center Bowl" in their green Carnival ("Iridescent Green") that was introduced in 1974.
I can't make out the trademark, I'm afraid, and I can't say what it might be. But I can confirm the maker, pattern, date and color.

I agree;
Indiana Glass.
I can't say what that mark is or if it's just a blemish of some sort in the glass that happened during production. I have never seen, read nor heard of any of this type of Indiana glass being marked in any way unless it was made for Homeco, Tiara or one of those other non-glass making companies, which Indiana was making glass for. I don't believe that any of these bowls were ever part of the Homeco or Tiara lines.

Yes, I saw the pattern was fairly common (darn! LOL!) but I don't believe this is a flaw, it is too "stamped" looking. It looks a bit like a crown or ship. Anyway, I surely appreciate the help and if anyone needs help on vintage jewelry, I hope to reciprocate.
Still would like to know if there is a website that shows the common glass marks? Maybe I am way off base but have found similar sites for jewelry, porcelain, etc. Hoping since I come across glass pieces fairly often and have to rely on others' descriptions to learn and as well all know, there are a lot of people who just make up stuff on eBay so I have to be careful. It is my intent to fully describe and disclose all I can about a piece.
I just sold a red verigated into yellow banana bowl and am putting a HUGE goblet/chalice and an ashtray/dish in similar colors with different patterns. The glass does glow under black light so have it listed as vaseline glass. If anyone knows anything further about those sort of pieces, would love to know. I believe your intentions are honest, but when you say;

You need to add the word "factual" to that too. Neither of those two items your links go to are Vaseline Glass. Looking at the photo of the items and the black light in your auctions it's easy to see they are not producing any green colored glowing effects like Vaseline Glass should, but are simply reflecting the light back from your black light is all.

That shows what the glowing black light effect on Vaseline Glass should look like, bright green light that arrears to come from inside of the item itself, rather than from the black light.
Those glass items you have listed are more often referred to as Amberina Glass on ebay, not Vaseline Glass. A buyer might win your auction, but when they get that glass in their hands and realize it isn't Vaseline Glass you might end up having a problem on your hands, so that's what I mean about adding Factual to your ebay selling intentions.
It's a pretty common mistake, I have noticed that a lot of people don't quite understand what effects they should be seeing with a black light and Vaseline Glass. Seems they only know "Glowing" and make some sort of assumption on that word alone.

There are very few sites on the internet which cover a good deal of glass maker's marks.

shows many marks and paper label markings, but doesn't sort them or mention if it's a mark on the glass or printed on a paper label.
The link in my first post above, to my ebay Me-Page is nothing but marks that are pressed into the glass, none of those marks are etched or engraved in the glass, pressed in only.
As far as I know; that Me-Page of mine has the most glass marks you can view for free on one site anywhere on the internet.
There are books on the subject for sale, which likely cover more than I am at the moment, if you care to go that route.

I so appreciate all the great information. I did change my "vaseline" glass listings and so appreciate the information. Like I told one replying person, I can't know everything about everything but I do try to NEVER misrepresent. I have learned so much over the past year, mostly about vintage jewelry but you can never quit learning. The only way to do that is to admit you don't know; you love it when people correct you (and I do!) and you open your mind to knowledge.
That coupled with the fact I offer 100% Customer Satisfaction or $$ back, no questions asked AND I even pay for the return shipping (reimbursed after I receive the item back) and I don't know of another seller on eBay that does that. I have only had to do it a couple of times and most of my business is from return customers because they know if they don't like it, the worst that will happen is they will have to make a trip to the post office!

By the way, a funny story about Vaseline glass. How I originally found out about it...I had a garage sale, I had a diamond point vase in this bright green. I thought I had received it free years ago with flowers and a green elephant paperweight. Had 50cents on the elephant and $1 on the vase. Two women started actually playing tug-o-war with the vase and then the elephant! I sold them and then went to eBay and started investigating what the big deal was...UH OH! I then realized I had several other pieces in my "junk" box which I researched and sold for quite a bit of $$ on eBay! You learn something new everyday, sometimes at a cost. Oh well, someone got a deal, I learned something new...all is well. Have a great one!
