Title: (Damaged) Eiffel Tower --> Label = CZECH
Post by: antiquerose123 on August 01, 2011, 04:07:08 PM
 :hi: there:

This is a damaged piece but you know me - I still will buy it because it had labels on it.  I do not care if not a showpiece item for my Glass Cabinet -- but hope that the info (confirmed ID with the label) will still be a contributing info to the Board here for anyone later that might find this piece.  Plus I only paid a $1.00 for it, so why not post the info to the board with the confirmed Label??

Item is 7 inches tall, and about 3.5 inches at the base.  Has two labels on it.  One says it is BOHEMIAN Crystal.

Before I posted I checked to see if any had been posted.  Gill had posted one similar to this -- but his had more of a rounded top (which I thought might have been ground down).  But then I noticed his base on his had less lines on it -- so it is NOT the same as the one Gill had (Sorry no ID yet, Gil).

Anyways here it is.  Still contributing info for the board -- even if damaged, but the label means more to me   ;D

* Not sure IF this is a chuck of glass, or a Paperweight, or where to post .......so I just posted it here rather than PW section.

Is this what you mean (http://www.debook.com/gifs/buttwiggle.gif)               :24: :24:  I just had to do that  ;D

I will get some side images (and behind....LOL)  of this piece, even if damaged.  It is a triangular shape, and I had not found one posted here yet when I did a search first before I posted it.  So I thought it might be of interest.

Thanks  :kissy:

Naughty Rose, what have you been eating (http://www.debook.com/gifs/weedyummy.gif)

Just so people can see how the illusion is made.

It bears a similarity to the Eiffel Tower, but is it??  It looks wrong to me, even if it is stylised...

Edit:  Think it could be the Petrin Tower in Prague? Or maybe not.,..

Gee....Maybe it is not the Eiffel tower.  I just assume it was.... :ho:  Maybe some other Tower ??

I have taken some pics of it (back, and sides) and will post them later today.

Having seen this second slightly larger one, it seems bizarre that it is clearly a different tower and I wonder if these were just made as giftware with no direct association to anything.

Nice, can you add a view from behind too please.

Did not forget, just a little slow....LOL.  :spls:

Maybe this is not the Eiffal Tower, I just *assumed* it was.  Anyway, here are some back pics as the back edge is cut out there for the design (shape) and then the glass (prism) magnifies it from the front.  Hope that helps some.  Again, not sure IF this is the Eiffal tower, or just another tower.

You have to admire the simplicity of execution with the effect given, much more thoughtful than the photographically produced laser decorated pieces. I guess the designer will never be known!

It's really Petřínská rozhledna - Petrin Tower in Prague :)

Cool, just need the factory and designer now. Odd that the larger one on eBay is so different!

I do not think mine is the Eifel Tower -- Maybe Michaela is right.  I just *assumed* it was the Eiffel tower.....but the link that Frank gave -- the Tower looks like it has different sections.

So maybe just a tower, until we can ID the tower.....lol.    I was the DOH one  :pb:  here !!

(http://serve.mysmiley.net/sad/sad0020.gif)   Assuming it was the Eiffal tower!!

Another example is here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32161.0.html

And a pagoda type tower with a probably older label here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,43964.0.html

Rose, Michaela has identified the tower for you...  It's the Petrin Tower in Prague.

Anyway, I find it interesting that the piece has got both a 'Czechoslovakia' label, and a 'Czech Republic' label, probably indicating early-ish to mid 90s for this item.

Bohemia Exclusive is still producing similar items.  Scroll down in  this link (http://www.bohemia-exclusive.cz/brousene-sklo/umelecke-sklo).

I thought we decided it was just 'a tower' as the design varies a fair bit... lets them be sold to all tower gift shops :) Notice that new one lacks the base grid. As the bottle with pagoda has an earlier label it is likely that they were being made well before 1996 & Bohemia Exclusive... who sound like a marketing company.

Can be very tough tracing giftware as no one wants to own up to it, despite this being a superb design idea.

Could be, although I've seen several with a markedly different tower. No links to prove it, though. :usd:

How fantastic to have an answer to which tower it is after all this time, thanks everyone :hiclp:  And yes, I agree, giftware or not it's a fabulous piece of glass X

I guess it was left up to the glasscutter to 'design' the tower and of course they were constrained by the size of the piece. As they get bigger they get even more elaborate. But I have yet to see one that actually matches a real tower and I have been looking.

Frank, all you have to do is squint your eyes, squeeze your butt cheeks together and tilt your head ever so slightly to the left...  you'll then see whatever real tower you want to see. ;D

It is definitely not Petřínská rozhledna in Prague, I would expect that this is rather Tokio Tower, possibly another one, not Eiffel as well.

The towers vary a lot Jindrich probably more designs than towers in the world. It was probably left to the cutters to do what they liked. Hunting Czech souvenir gift-ware makers as these are likely to be still in production... a few linked here but not the one  http://www.borla.net/ingrosso_eng.htm

Found a Czechian seller of these

English http://www.glass-bohemia.com/en/detail/389-Swift-18x7cm.html
Czech http://www.cesky-kristal.cz/cs/32-Darkove-sklo.html

If someone that can speak Czech can contact them we might be able to get details of factory and designer.  Perhaps they can also be persuaded to acknowledge designers of all their stock!

In English these are sold as Eiffel Tower in Czech:  Eiffelova věž
