Title: Did I get a deal?

When I found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160290814337) I bit. The picture is pretty crappy but the facetting and the diamond cut base look like Baccarat to me. If I could see the sulphide, I'd know but this is a new seller still finding his legs. If it turns out to be Murano, I think I still got a deal.

I don't think you paid too much, but there are overlay sulphides from Baccarat with the correct etched mark; overlay sulphides made by Baccarat ( I think) for the Franklin Mint, marked as such; overlay sulphides made in Murano; and overlay sulphides made in Murano with fake Baccarat marks.  The Murano ones can be very high quality, but the overlay is often thicker than the Baccarat ones. Many have good  waffle cut bases.  The overlay in your image looks fairly thick, so I suspect Murano.

I'm not certain what the going rate is, but I don't think that these sulphides - regardless of maker - fetch more than $40 - $60 normally, as there are a lot in circulation.  If anyone thinks otherwise, I have one that I would willingly part with for $100!

I paid between 10 and 25 for most of my sulphides. The two overlays I have I paid around 60 for.

I do observe that Baccarat overlays have some kind of foot. Even with as bad as this photo is, I can tell this one does not have a foot.

Well, well, I have my first Murano sulphide!

It's definitely Murano. The sulphide looks like a copy of one Baccarat did but the detail is no where near as crisp. There is a small annealing fault at the edge of the insert. You can see it in the close up. It looks like it started from some junk that fell in while they were making it.

The facetting is very nice, nicer than a lot of Murano and nicer than most d'Albret. It's only slightly thicker than my Baccarat double overlay.

Anybody have any idea which maker made these sulphides?
