I have found quite a few of my newest pieces, but some of the more basic Scandinavian type ones are reducing me to tearing my hair out...
They all look so similar, unless they are signed I am struggling!! This one isn't of course...
any ideas?

How tall is it Lynne?
Is the marking on the base a fire-polished punty mark or something mechanical?
The vase looks like a stretched version of an Alsterfors pattern.
-
It's almost exactly 8 ins 200mm tall. Base looks to be a fire polished pontil scar... very lumpy!
rim is fire polished. Some small oval bubbles in the glass. Amethyst is true purple, not red or blue.
edited: just looked again at your vase Chris, the colour is much less blue than yours.

Lynne - take a look at the following link
http://www.glasgaleriezindel.eu/
click on Collections then go to Finnish - there's one very similar in shape (different colour) attributed there as Riihimaki 1970's.

Hi Lynne :)
I wonder if your vase is related to this one? I have no idea of the designer or glassworks this one came from. I see this type of vase on a fairly regular basis, and I kept this one because of the sticker. The defining characteristics seem to be a light weight and curiously super-glossy glass surface.

Max, I've got one which looks identical to yours but in amber, and without any label. http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10048/normal_Amber_waisted_vase.jpg

Max and Leni, I believe your waisted vases are by Alsterfors, Sweden. I saw a labelled example some time ago. I have an interesting opaque black example at the moment and have seen taller cylindrical vases with the same texture pattern.
-
Thanks Mosquito, it could be Alsterfors - there's quite a lot of them about, it'd be nice to find one with a label, maybe 'Made in Sweden' was all the British buying public required, or the exporter/importer only needed that. ???
Leni, yours is a very similar beast, and one I've seen before too. Yours has horizontal ribs, but mine doesn't...my one has a slightly uneven (but deliberate) appearance that makes it look like it might have those ribs. I'll remember to keep a lookout in future for some more information. :)

Thanks Pip, that Riihimaki one seems to be exactly the same shape. Is the amethyst a known Riihimaki colour?
Max and Leni, nice vases! Max your colour looks very similar.
It's so good to be back..... ;D

Thanks Pip, that Riihimaki one seems to be exactly the same shape. Is the amethyst a known Riihimaki colour?
I posted an amethyst Scandi type vase up for query a little while ago thinking that amethyst wasn't a Riihimaki colour and Emmi kindly pointed me to a page in Andy McConnells book which shows a picture of one in amethyst. Until then I didn't think it was a colour they did - now I know it is. So, yes, it is a known Riihimaki colour although they don't seem to be as common as the reds, blues and greens.

Great! Many thanks.
