I just got this paperweight and the more I look at it the more I like it and the more subtle it is. It has a flat cut display and a base about the size of a dime. there is a very nice, light blue-green shade to the upper part of the clear part. Can anybody tell me what this might be. To my untrained eye it resembles some of the Scottish weights.

I understand why you see a resemblance to some Scottish paperweights, but I think this one is modern Chinese. I have seen similar weights in various colours, some with arrays of bubbles, some with flash colouring to the sides.

Thanks for your input. I was hoping it would be a "name brand", but it is still a very classy piece , I think. I wish there was a way for novices like me to tell the difference, but I guess that's part of the fun.

Everybody learns by experience and research.
However, weights with flower petals formed in that way and with that type of edging will (at least 99% of the time) be modern Chinese. And armed with that information, you are no longer the novice you were before reading this. ;D

That's useful info Kevin. Thanks!
