Title: Cranberry stained vase with handles ID = Tiffin #15319
Post by: TxSilver on February 26, 2011, 04:34:21 PM
I've seen this vase several times, but I don't remember what it is. Maybe someone can help. It is 6.5" (16.5 cm) tall. It is clear glass stained cranberry. The cranberry has a golden sheen. It is scratched in some places, so it is easy to see the color is applied to the outside. The base is molded into two parts, but the body of the vase has no seams. Searching for the vase would be difficult because any keywords would lead to a thousand results. :) I hope someone will recognize it and jog my memory.

That is pretty Anita!

I think I have seen something like it in my net search too -- but where?  See IF I can find anything   :spls:

I know what you mean, Rose. I think it is pretty common. The base has a ring of wear on it, so I imagine it has 50 or more years under its rim now.

I found a larger etched one of the same or similar design at http://www.rubylane.com/item/14591-RL2729/Vintage-Large-2-Handle-Etched. The etchings look like they could be Czech to me, but can't really say.

Are the handles ribbed? If so it could be Tiffin [LINK REMOVED]

Christine, the Tiffin ones are so close, but the handles look a little different to me. The Tiffin handles look slimmer with a more distinct rib. Maybe my vase is modeled on theirs, or is just a smaller size. I don't recall anything by Tiffin that was stained or flashed. Did they do this?

The glass of my vase is as thick as a generic type Murano vase. I'm not sure if Tiffin did anything this thick. Most of the things I've seen by them have been slimmer glass. (Something that just dawned on me, though, is maybe it is something along the line of US Glass, because it is so similar to the Tiffin.)

Christine, I think you could be right. I found one of the Tiffin Coronet vases at http://www.centennialantiques.com/X694370Coronet-Vase.html. The glass in that picture looks very thick to me. My vase is smaller, but there's a good chance it was done by them. Thank you so much for the help. I need to see if they did staining.

Added on -- I am finding several Tiffin vases that have the same color of cranberry, so the possibility is looking better that my vase is Tiffin.

Your vase is Tiffin's #15319, came in the 6" & 10" size. These blanks were commonly sold to outside decorating companies that did the flashing. Ken

Thanks, Christine and Ken, for your help with this vase. I found a Tiffin one of this size in blue with enamel. The handles looked right. Christine, that is an excellent site for patterns and blanks once I figured out which direction to travel in the links.

Yes, the shape is just like mine. I did some looking around and the price seems a little ambitious. I saw some larger and engraved ones with this type asking price. Perhaps the blue satin is more rare??
