Picked this up at local antique fair today and though I know little about overlay glass I'm assuming it's Bohemian but no idea of maker of date so any ideas appreciated, and since it was the princely sum of £2 I couldn't leave it there. Really nice deer and ducks in flight and it's for keeping.

Paul, overlay glass is not my interest, motives including the ferns look scandinavia to me - just my first and for sure only idea on these cute little things  :?

Could well be right Pamela as I also know nothing about overlay, so hopefully someone out there will have an idea.
Love you web site by the way, helped me a lot this week on ID for a Nymphen dressing table set.

Ruby cut-to-clear is almost never signed so you have to make do with stylistic characteristic. I think these are quite recent because of the dark colour of the overlay and the stylised interpretation of the deer and ducks. Looks as if they are small tumblers or shot glasses, correct? So would then be part of a set which included a decanter.
Country: could be Bohemia, could be Hungary, could be Poland, could even be Serbia.

It's actually a vase 5.5" high and 4" in diameter.

that is a lot larger than expected, I think it means the cutting is done rather quickly without much attention to detail. Maybe not a top piece, but it shows how effective cut-to-clear rubyflash can be.

I'll stick my neck out and say that this is definitely not an older Bohemian or Czech piece. The cutting is just far too stylised - the deer look more like Disney Bambi-types than the usual Egermann-style ones.
