Post by: thewingedsphinx on March 06, 2018, 09:21:29 PM
For reference I thought I'd add these pictures as I came across a few threads on here with this registration but no pictures. Perhaps this thread can be linked to the others if need be?

i hope to have this up on eBay if anyone is interested by the weekend, you should be able to find a link in the market place.Feel free to use the pictures from eBay for the gallery.( which I still cannot log into)
It's 15cm. High and wide.
Regards Mike

I will try and chase this up over the next couple of days.

both Registrations are for stemmed, unlidded sugar basins, and individual pressed designs are very different.               This one Mike refers to Rd. No. 260404 ....................   if the Kew images of the original factory drawings are thought to be of interest, I can post here tomorrow.     Please let me know.

The Gallery uses a separate registration and login, Mike, as it's on a physically different hosting platform, so we can't share the logins from here.  I've set one up for you and the board will flag up a private message for you with the details. Registration for Gallery is done manually on request to limit rogue spambot signups and non-GMB folks, who the Gallery isn't intended for. :)   If you get stuck and need help just shout me!

RD 260404 is one of the earliest Sowerby registrations.

Other shapes with this 2 February 1872 lozenge appear in the Sowerby pattern book XI (1885), most with pattern no. 1032, but the salt with pattern no. 1032½.

Oddly, I cannot see a matching pattern 1032 sugar in pattern book XI, or a sugar with the same design but with a different pattern number.

Sight of the RD 260404 and 260405 design representations would be helpful, please, Paul.

Fred.

Here then are copies of the original factory drawings - courtesy of the Trustees and Directors at The National Archives, Kew.

Thank you for showing these, Paul. I will add them to the GMB RD database and the Glass Queries Gallery's Sowerby album in due course.

It certainly confirms that Mike's sugar bowl is indeed from Sowerby RD 260404 of 12 February 1872.

As for Sowerby RD 204605, also registered on 12 February 1872 -  I can find no matching pattern number for the sugar bowl or, for that matter, any other shape, in Sowerby's pattern book XI (1885). Presumably, if they were ever illustrated in a previous Sowerby pattern book, then that pattern book is not available for reference in the public domain.
