Title: Kosta - Lillanna
Post by: wesley on June 05, 2008, 06:28:24 PM
Hello,

Could anyone give me any information or leads on this wondrful piece I bought recently as I cannot find anything on the internet.

To the base it reads 'Lillanna - 74 Kosta' cased in clear green and blue, it is extremly heavy.

Kind regards,

Wes

Wes:

Very nice piece. I can see it being designed by Rolf Sinnemark, Bengt Edenfalk, or even Anna Ehrner at Kosta in the 70's or 80's but it doesn't show in any book or catalogue I have. Neither does the signature conform to how Kosta pieces were supposed to be signed (four digits before early 70's; five after). Although I've seen exceptions, but none like this, though. I've bought another Kosta catalogue which should be here soon. I'll check that when it arrives.

It's certainly worth trying to find out about.

The term "lillanna" probably means "little anna"

The Swedish word lillan = little girl.

I do not think the piece was part of Kosta Glasbruk production. The signature does not make sense.

In the 1980's the Kosta Glassworks had a glass school attached to the factory but sponsored by the local commune. I am not sure what year the school started but this might be answer to your question - a work signed by a student.

Or someone took a second and signed the work. Often it is impossible to tell the difference between seconds and firsts sold at Kosta and Orrefors

The signature is not from THE Kosta.  There are several options, 1. Blown by a tourist. 2. Glasschool. 3. Resigned second choice. 4. Blown within some of the other glassfactoires in the area.

Its possible to sa Lillanna in sweden, but should be written Lill-Anna. Lillan=means small baby.

Daniel, Thank  you for your last comment, it is so useful and informative.

The piece itself weighs 5kg, So I am inclined to eliminate that it has been blown by a tourist. Can anyone else use their Sherlock Holmes like detective skills to eliminate any other of the options?  :)

Best wishes,

Wes

I was a little quick when I wrote the last message. I totally agree that this isnt done by a tourist.
