Title: Monart jigsaw

Hiya!

A neighbour has asked me about this piece of monart she has found in her loft - it belonged to her husband's mother. She doesn't know what to do with it! It's not her cup of tea to keep it, but while the most incredibly damaged piece of Monart I've ever seen, it is still holding together in one bit - (is there a record for the most damaged bit, still holding together?), it is a particularly nice piece.

She's stuck with the dilemma of it being too good to throw away, but too damaged to keep. She works in Oxfam and would be happy to donate it and any small amount of cash it might raise to the charity, but obviously, is concerned about the risks involved with selling something so damaged.

Any advice for her?

Looks like it suffered temperature extremes. Not saleable at all, recycling bin.

I would keep my pens in it or maybe use it in the kitchen for squished teabags or garlic or.....

David Barby might like it, to go with the cracked Monart vase he bought last week on BBC's Antiques Road Trip.   I said to the OH, "It's got to be cracked at that price", and so it was!

I do believe Monart is quite famous for holding together when in this state.

I wouldn't put old teabags in it, John, the residual tea would leach into the cracks and stain them. Garlic is an option. (I keep my whole cloves in an Iittala vase, ones I've started to use stay in a little textured dish in the shape of a bit of an onion - I think it might be Skruf).

So, I take it it wouldn't do any harm to take it (the Monart) to Oxfam and see if somebody might be prepared to part with a few quid for it.

I live with a tea drinker, I have to deal with the 'orrible teabag and teastains issue. :P
