Title: Perthshire? - ID = Caithness "blank"

The paperweight shown here (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5335820906&customid=&icep_item=350308019436&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) is not a design that I recognise - but the canes look more Caithness to me than Perthshire. However, I don't feel this is a Caithness design. Any thoughts on origins?

Alan,

The canes do look like the Caithness "Edinburgh Crystal" type.

I have seen a Caithness weight with a similar set-up but that had an engraved centre - the QE II or something similar....

The description is probably Perthshire - which it isn't...

These designs have come up on here or the other forum before and I think in the past Allan Scott has given us the info. This in Caithness, and from the 80s era when they did the Edinburgh weights - hence the identical pastel canes. From what I recall these were done as blanks for commemorative type weights - as for example the engraved QE2 referred to above.   Obviously the large clear base lends itself to having an engraved image or text. I think seconds escaped - I have one somewhere which has no engraving, and is not marked as C11G but with slipped canes that clearlywasn'g good enough quality

Martin - many thanks.  I guess there are examples around with various engraved logos.

Hi,
Just to confirm that this is indeed a Caithness corporate "Blank" design. It was done with several different cane combinations and they were available for companies to choose whichever they preferred for their logo.
