Post by: chriscooper on October 17, 2011, 10:01:27 PM
Old or a souvenir made yesterday? know nothing at all about these  under glass looks like it's cut out of material and not card signed Marcelle second name Do..... last word A.R.M size around 2.75" seems well made and a bit of work went into it.

Looks like a silhouette miniature by Marcelle D Shears R.M.A.

Peter Bates Miniatures (http://www.miniaturepictures.co.uk/index.php?cat=Fine_Art_Prints ) sell versions of Shears silhouettes, amongst other items (including coasters as per this eBay item (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PETER-BATES-COASTERS-X4-SILHOUETTE-MARCELLE-D-SHEARS-/260647002177)), but they do not show items like this paperweight.

There are various web pages and eBay listings that show Marcelle D Shears silhouettes and one eBay listing (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marcelle-silhouette-paperweight-/260829843422) (ended 11 Aug) was for a weight of the same type as this one.

However, trying to tie up information about Shears through googling seems inconclusive. The Peter Bates site states that Shears was a founder menber of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, but the Hilliard Soceity website gives brief informaton about two founders but nothing about Shears! Maybe I am just not seeing something obvious?

Another £2 spent wisely then, the one in the ebay link unsold 99p back to whence it came.

Thank you both for your help.

Hi Chris, :hi:

When we moved into this house,  these little pictures were all over the walls.....I didn't realise what they were or the value,  so gave them all to our local charity shop!!  I hope they got a good price for them.
They were golden framed pictures, not paperweights though!
At least you know from that link that yours is part of the 'Seasons' range.  :)
