Title: Weekend windfall
Post by: lyndhurst44 on January 22, 2006, 07:08:52 PM
What a great weekend for booty buys, seven items including a Holmegaard decanter, a nice Mdina vase, two scandi vases, probably Aseda and 3 unknowns. Total outlay £22.50. :D
Please take a look, not entirely happy with the rose bowl quality though.

Hi lyndhurst44,
That really was a great weekend, and some great finds.
Your blue bowl looks incredibly like one that tigerchips has, mentioned in this thread;

Oops   To fast on the trigger. Here are the others.

That's better, I really do get over excited sometimes
The pink psychedelic vase has a raised pontil just like Isle of Wight's bullet. The blue bowl is another enigma. Scandanavian :?:
Thanks for your help.

Hi Della,
No tag I'm afraid, the bowl measures  10.5" x 7.75" would that be similar to yours?
Cheers,

This is the Ikea one of TC's thread - the colour and proportions are about right, but it's hard to tell if the shape is right from the photograph:

I like the rosebowl Bryn has a Loetz / Pallme Koenig look to it, is the rim OK under the plated top, that can often hide a multitude of sins.

I agree with Paul.  The rose bowl was the one item I said 'Ooooh!' about.  The others are good too, but are pretty much standard fare compared to the rose bowl.

I'll be interested to see further developments, and well done for a GREAT haul!!!!  :D  :D  :D

Well done Bryn!

Any chance of a picture of the underside + pontil mark on the psychadelic pink one?

The mark impressed in the IOWSG pontil blob represents a gather of glass in a flame, the IOWSG logo. Is this what you mean by the bullet?

There are other marks other studios impress in their bits, sometimes these marks can be a bit squidged and difficult to make out, unless you know what you're looking at!

Holmegaard? Standard fare?   Take it back!

haha

No, the rose bowl is rather pretty, though. But I'd still rather have the decanter.

The measurments on that site can't be right. The width is bigger than the length.  :?

My Ikea bowl measures 7.75 inches wide and 10.5 inches length. Nearly 4 inches high at the highest point. 910 Grams.

Pity, perhaps getting two pieces of Holmegaard in one day was asking just a bit too much.
With regard to the rose bowl the rim possibly has a couple of tiny nibbles, it is quite difficult to tell as the textured nature of the exterior may just give that impression, there is certainly no damage of note. But I am dubious that the quality of the bowl is up to the very high standard of such a famous name, but who knows. The bowl only cost me 50p :o .
I may just list it on Ebay and let the market decide.   Hark at me, sounding just like Gordon Brown  :!:
thanks for your help.

Surely width and length are relative to which angle you're viewing the bowl from?

Either way, the proportions are still the same, more or less.  :)

50p is certianly cheap for that rose bowl, I sold one of these with an interesting alien design on it for £15 on an Antique stall. This one that I have showed you, I currently have £6 on it as it is slightly damaged. There is a lot of interest in it, especially with the ladies.  :)

The two vases in the first pic are indeed by Åseda Glasbruk. Funnily enough I picked up one this weekend which is exactly the same as the one on the left! Cost a £1! LOL!!!

Tigerchips! Link away all you like! I don't mind!

Sue, Sue, sorry for the delay in responding, the word I meant was bolt not bullet, I must be losing it - again  Your message was not there when I previously looked, somehow you were further up the list.
I also posted the pink vase on the Isle of Wight site before posting here and the photo included a corner one of the pontil mark. I have yet to get a response.
Anyway here it is.

Hope this helps. Some time ago I posted a photo of another vase with a
very similar pontil on the IOW site and was informed that it was Kerry glass of Ireland using a Michael Harris design.

Aahh so! We're talking the coach-bolt pontil, grand! That's quite unusual, earlier than the flame. I was told they were just playing around with ideas and a coach-bolt came to hand! I've got a Kerry globe vase the same design as your cylinder, but it has a flame pontil mark.

:? I was once told that Kerry put the flame on their pontil facing in the other direction, but I don't know if that's an urban myth, because mine is the same way as IOWSG.

Hi TC,
The brass frog pattern on your Loetz!!!!!!! has exactly the same pattern as mine, mine also fits very loosly. I don't believe there is any damage at all just a bit confusing due to the impressed pattern coming right to the top. It also stands at a fraction under 5" and the diameter is 6", there is also very narrow or shallow "foot" of about 1/4". Do there measurements ring a bell :?:
Cheers,
Bryn (not Brian)
It's a minefield out there :!:  :!:

Yes, it is exactly the same size as mine and has a shallow foot too.

We have spoken about these in the link below but no maker has been Identified yet.

Hi Sue,
Yes, I remember David Tolley of IOW telling me the same thing about Kerry glass, ie. he said they were identical, one having the name Kerry and the other IOW. :?  Nothing about the flame facing the opposite way.
I notice there is a person with your user name who occasionally posts questions on the IOW site, are you one and the same? :o
By the way is your Kerry piece pink as well :!:
Cheers,

:D:D:D
Yes, That's me on the IOWSG forum, but not anywhere else!

None of the people who are using that name and variant spellings of it on eBay are me!

I don't use the IOWSG forum too often - I don't seem to get much response, although I have had correspondence with Ron Wheeler of Artius Glass resulting from it.

No, my Kerry piece isn't pink, it's the "Shamrock", splodgy blue and olivey-brown.

:? I don't know about your pink piece at all. :?

Bits of it whisper "Maltese connection" and others don't!

I've got some bits that confuse me too. They whispered just the same things!

Hi Sue, Thanks, i get your drift.
Yes, I think we are about the only one's using the IOW site. Responses are slow and inconsistent but probably accurate when given. But woe betide you should you not take the information when given as read.
I, Lyndhurst44 have experienced the wrath.

I have two Kerry paperweights with labels, that have their flame marks the wrong way round , and it was confirmed in an answer to my post on the paperweight bit of this board http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6145.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6145.0.html)
that IOW and Kerry were connected, but Kerry lost their flame stamp and made a new one the wrong way round!  I thought that was so Irish!
