Post by: Tony H on March 24, 2011, 10:37:14 PM
Hi Guys my wife and I found a Carnival glass bowl

I have done a google, also looked at Glen's and Dave Doty's web site but no luck with pattern ID, I first thought Fenton Or USGlass. Co but now I am not sure if it is a USA piece.

Can any help?

It's Imperial's Floral & Optic, Tony. The colour makes me think it is a contemporary example - is it actually pink, or is my monitor showing the colour wrongly? If it is a true pink, then it's possible it might have an IG (or LIG) mark somewhere on it. If it's not pink, then maybe it is clambroth and my monitor is not showing the correct colour.

Hi Glen thank you for your help.

I thought it could Clambroth, there is no trade mark that I can see
Yes the colour is Pink also a bright green mostly inside when you move it around, would this be called a rose bowl?

Hi Tony - yes I would class it as a rosebowl, as it is cupped in at the top. (You can always hedge your bets by saying "rosebowl shape" if you feel it wasn't intended as a rosebowl  ;D) It's a fabulous piece.

Glen, sorry, is this likely to be the original or the contemporary version?

Hi Cathy - sorry that I didn't spot this further question (I only ever look in the main Glass section  :wsh:)

Without handling the bowl I am not sure. The colour seems wrong for an old piece, unless it is a pinkish clambroth - which is perfectly possible. Tony reports no trademark, which appears to rule out repro. Unless the mould has been used since the demise of IG/ALIG etc., (and I am not aware of subsequent use) for pink production with the TM removed, then I feel it is most likely to be a pinkish clambroth, old bowl. But - hand on heart - I truly cannot be sure.

Whatever it is, it's gorgeous.
