A lovely vase, and a "pizzicato" from Vienna on Hogmanay - how appropriate!

Will you join me in the polka?

Health, happiness and wealth to you for the coming year

Thanks a lot, Sue!
In Vienna it has to be the "Donauwalzer" (= waltz "The blue Danube") at midnight :)
And no excuse for not dancing  :chky:

All the best

But the pizzicata polka is much more fun - I like leaping around in the air in circles fast - and I don't get in a tangle with Michael's weird feet  - which I do in a waltz. They stick out sideways - there's nowhere for my feet to be if we try to dance close together.

And  :chky: is doing the polka already!

I don't get to go to my Strauss Gala Evening until the 6th, looking forward to that.

Ours will be hitting the airwaves (compliments of PBS in the States) at 9:00 p.m. on the 1st.

I'm always up for a Viennese waltz.  :band:

Michael:

I hope your New Year starts off as well as the old year seems to have ended. Pizzicato is one of my favourite designs. It's one of the design that went over with some of the Mstisov workers when production moved to Moser. Both my Pizzicato vase and bowl have Moser labels on them, although they were disowned by Moser when I contacted them. Strangely enough, the ashtray I have is marked with the logo of the Bohemian Hop Cooperative. I've never been able to see a difference between production at Mstisov and at Moser, probably becasue the sem people were making them

Thanks, David!
"Pizzicato" is a really lovely design. I have walked past this vase for some weeks, but hesitated to buy it because I found it quite expensive (at least for me).
Now that it is mine I cannot understand why I didn't get it immediately :)

So you mean it is impossible to tell whether this design was made at Mstisov or at Moser?
Interestingly I own a  Zemek "Rhapsody" vase with two labels, one  "Rhapsody Made in Czechoslovakia", and one "Borocrystal".
I guess this one should be from the Mstisov factory then?

All the best for 2011

Michael:

The point I think I was making was that some of the designs altered a little when  they went over to Moser. Rhapsody is a good example. Personally, I prefer the earlier, pure Mstisov version. The colours, bubbles and flow on Pizzicato all stayed pretty much the same after the move: subtle and beautiful. I couldn't tell which yours is unless it has a Mstisov or Moser label.

Hi David,
I am with you here - I like the earlier Rhapsody pieces much better than the ones with the very colourful applied stripes.
My only Rhapsody item is this vase http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/y2PspEhbZhCN6if4VNwVSH2Z3dZqbwk-cyMWNFP8UTA (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/y2PspEhbZhCN6if4VNwVSH2Z3dZqbwk-cyMWNFP8UTA) featured in the 1957/3 CGR, only in a higher necked version. I like the soft colours on this one :)
And as it has this round Borocrystal label, which Mark Hill depicts in his book claiming this was a 50ies Novy Bor group label, I assume that it is more likely from the Mstisov production.

Best regards
Michael

Wow, Jindrich, very nice! Thanks for sharing!

I especially like the Pizzicato small vase and bowl (not so fond of basket-type things :) )
I didn't know that the blue/gold items were also part of the Pizzicato range, looked different to me in shape and colours...
Was the Pizzicato range later expanded like the Rhapsody range?

I doo not know exactly whether  Pizzicato was produced also later in Karlovarske sklo, but I suppose not.
The blue at pictures looks much brighter than in reality, but the blue is different from one in another pieces.

Jindrich:

I've assumed Pizzicato was made at Karlovarske sklo. I've got two pieces with a Moser label on them. I wrote to Moser asking and after seeking clarification of the first reply, I got this from Veronika:

The Moser glassworks has been producing hand-made unleaded glassware and
has its typical  design. In the communist regime (about 1950´s) the
glasswork Mstišov (located in the North Bohemia) was connected to Moser
as the area of Mstišov glasswork was step by step used for mining. That
is why the Mstišov production (its metallurgical production) was made in
the Moser factory but under the trade mark “Karlovarské sklo”. After the
year 1980 the glasswork Mstišov with its employees became extinct and
the assortment was taken over the Cvikov glassworks. This glasswork
Cvikov became later extinct too.

It means that the label Moser should not be on your glass vase as it was
produced by the Mstišov glassworks, but whose production was on the
ground of  Moser glasswork.

It's not a definitive proof, but it does strongly suggest that Pizzicato was made at Karlovarske Sklo.

Thank you David,
the lable with Karlovarské is good proof.
As ussual, the anwer from Moser is not very exact in case of this free hand glass production.
Mstisov factory has been closed not in 50ties but in 1965. Seems to me that for young people from customer service this makes no difference, it is in deep past for them :-)

I have got simmilar message about Rhapsody from them, mentioning Cvikov glasswork. This glasswork is not to know to me and for the meanwhile I have not find any record about it.

Very interesting, thank you!
I still wonder about those two very different designs both being part of the Pizzicato range; the gold/blue items don't seem to have much in common with the multicolour pieces but the small air bubbles...
My vase and Jindrich's bowl, vase and basket are all depicted in CGR 5/6 1960, but neither of the other designs.
