Title: Miloslav Janku for ZBS neodymium bird or penguin? 1967?
Post by: flying free on March 07, 2012, 09:42:21 PM
I had no idea what this was when I bought it - but suddenly tonight searching for something else, I spotted another animal and the penny dropped .
Am I right?  It's not an exact match for the one in the catalogue but I think it is a Janku piece  :-\
14cm tall by 8cm widest and weighs 800grms

Hello m,  I would guess a ZBS piece, and it is very much Janku's style,  but there are others here on the board that know more about ZBS than I do.
I have won a signed owl this evening, and shown the cockrel I bought at Cambridge in a separate thread.

We will soon have a Zoo between us!

He is lovely..........are you selling him?? :-[

It looks very Janku to me too. The pieces in the catalogue may differ due to them being hand made.

Jindrich has a blue version of your bird on his 'Ceskoslovenske Sklo' DVD.  He attributes it to Janku, ZBS pattern number 814006 (the same number found in the CGR you linked to), design date 1966.

I believe some of these Janku animals are still being made by Svoboda glassworks (or maybe I'm confused.)

Definitely ZBS but later, I would guess. It's less curved and the tail is lower than on the earlier ones. The one below is very similar to one shown in Langhamer, The Legend of Boheman Glass, p. 203.

David I can see there is a difference in shape, so possibly a later version then - I like your green, the shape is great.  Anik, I need to get the DVD at some point, thanks for the reminder.   Scavo, I can't actually see the bird on the link you gave but thank you for the link.

Hi Michael, I'd say an eagle as well.  It's quite a graceful shape, isn't it? Lovely item.

Thanks Rosie and Anik.
Quite an elegant thing, I like it, too.

BTW, forgot dimensions: he stands 20 cm tall.

I have just received a new ZBS hedgehog this morning thanks to help from Dirk...it is lovely,  citrine yellow and looks like he is covered in sugar!!  I love him.
Lots of lovely new pieces recently, I promise I will post piccies very soon.
I just love these Czech pieces Michael,  they are stylish,  simple and elegant... just like your wonderful eagle.
