Title: IOW glass - What is it?
Post by: Ben.unwin on August 19, 2016, 01:44:21 PM
What is this?
Was in a box buried under a load of other glass.
Has the flame pontil imprinted in a disc that measures 5.5cm in diameter and 1.5cm tall.
Looks to have gold flake inside but don't recall azurene being in any clear glass by IOW.
Maybe Kerry glass or St. Johns Glass?
Any info welcome  :)

Assuming it has not fallen off the bottom of the vase, they were made as freebie gifts for one of the Studio's open or collectors days (if I remember correctly). Ron Wheeler of Artius Glass gave me one a year or two back, he had a bunch of them, must have had the leftovers from the event. Mine does not have any gold leaf though...

Hi John thanks for the prompt reply.
The back is completely flat with no evidence it was previously on something else.
Does it have a purpose or is it just a token?

Hi,

If I remember correctly they were produced at one of the factory days to show/replicate the use of the flame pontil stamp. I can't remember if it was an original stamp or a reproduction. Anyway they were given away as freebies as mentioned by John.
