Title: Rainbow Swirled Art Glass Bowl
Post by: Nancy128 on June 17, 2008, 01:01:00 PM
A friend of mine picked this up at an auction for me, I had no clue that it was going to be so pretty when cleaned up.  I weighs close to 5 LBS, 11-inch diameter, 6-inches tall.  I'm not at all sure where to start researching this piece.  Am hoping you guys could steer me in the right direction.  Also, could anyone explain the process of this type of glass?

Hi Nancy,
as you havent got any replies, i'll give you my thoughts, could be way out ;D
Colours say Kosta Boda to me, Goran Warff, maybe, but then it would probably have a signature.
And the shape, size, weight, makes me think Czech ;D

Hey, its a start, it might start the suggestions rolling in now!

Cheers
Andy

ps thinking about it , im leaning towards Czech, c 1960s, Marcus may have an idea if he pops in ;)

Thank you, Andy!  I'll start looking in that direction.  ;)

I've got a Vas Vitreum piece with very similar colours (all three) in it. I looked at their site and I couldn't see anything quite so heavy. It looks quite modern to me, not communist era Czech. Hope this helps.

Vas Vitreum,
never heard of them before now, impressive website and nice stuff!

Nancy,
any signs of age on the base? David may be right, not Czech, but in the book,
Czech glass 1945-1980 Design in an age of Adversity, by Arnoldsche,
the colours and designs from that period are quite amazing.
Cheers
Andy

I had never heard of Vas Vitreum before either!

There is little wear on the base.

I've been searching those avenues, but no real clear conclusions.  It's just like me to love a piece of glass and not be able to find any info on it.  LOL

I'm sorry I don't have any ideas about your pretty bowl, but I wanted to say I was just looking through your gallery and admiring the glass you've got posted there.  After seeing so many of your posts about ABP on the PGP board, it was neat seeing some of your other types of glass.  I especially like your lizard on a rock!

Andy mentioning Design in an Age of Adversity made me rethink it not being Czech. The colours in that book (excellent book, BTW) are much different from the colour in the Czech pieces I routinely come across, so Czech might be a possibility, after all. Marcus, I'm sure, could tell us very quickly.

LOL, Kristie!  I have to admit, I do have a love for all glass.  Not just American Brilliant.  ABP is basically my job and the other different types of glass are my what I run across when doing my job.  I guess I have a pretty good job.  ;D

David, I too, hope Marcus will come soon and shed some light.
