Title: By Chance......David
Post by: antiquerose123 on February 24, 2012, 01:02:11 PM
 :hi:

Found this just yesterday.  Glass oblong shallow bowl.  Has the label on it, so I know it is Chance Glass.  Any additional info about it (year, or rarity, or what it is really called).  Maybe it is a candy Dish?  I was not finding much for this type of *shape.

~ 13.5 inches long
~ 5.25 inches wide
~ Yellow Roses
~ Gold / Black oval Foil label (intact) for Chance glass

This is only my second piece here, but I recall seeing lots growing up.  Not sure where it is all hiding here (??)

  Thanks for you help!

Thanks Keith.

So you do not see the shape overthere -- or the Color/pattern?  Was this made ONLY for Export? totally?

I'm afraid it's a common shape, and a fairly common pattern. I certainly see enough of it in charity shops!

It's a sandwich plate.

If I remember right the book said Fiesta glass did it again for the local market in 1981,don't think I've seen this pattern before, not round here ;D ;D

Are you sure you aren't confusing it with Mermaid Rose Sue? That has fewer petals and no white background.

I have googled those names now -- and now I see that there is a difference in the flowers.  Yeah, I see what you mean one has fewer petals on it.  So this is a Sandwich plate?

I now have a total of 2 pieces of Chance Glass

Now I don't know! It's yellow roses. One bunch of yellow roses looks exactly like the next bunch of yellow roses.

But I certainly have seen these around - it's the white background that makes it look different to me.

One is an example, two is a mistake, three is a collection Rose. You need another bit!

Sorry for the lateness in replying, but I have been finalising Patricia's new book, so haven't had a 'chance' to look at the forum as often.

The white background indicates a later Chance production, perhaps c.1978, but then it was invariably used, as Keith surmised, for Fiesta Glass (so post-1981). I guess this dates between 1978 and 1981.

Hi there:

FOUND another Chance glass with intact label as this one posted...but this one has the RED ROSES on it.  Thought I would just post here since now I have 2 of these same items, same shape, size.....but different flowers and flower colors.

Thanks

This design is Sovereign Rose. The red/orange colouring was always a problem for Chance. This was because the transfers were intended for ceramics, which had a different firing temperature and where the red colour would always come out truer.

My book mentions the problems of them getting true colours, in particular red. Don't have a copy to hand ATM, bur perhaps Keith can help out?

Yup, one more and I have a collection here......lol......and I am glad they both have their labels on them!!

Sovereign Rose is the name.  Kinda neat as my username is ROSE and I grew up near a town/village called Sovereign....so I will not forget the name of this item!!

Found it,due to Chances using transfers sourced from other companies there were occasional problems with red in the design fading during the firing process, ;D
