Title: Small studio vase with chunky 'handles'
Post by: glassobsessed on August 11, 2014, 04:39:46 PM
Does anyone recognise the maker of this small vase? Cranberry in colour (it looks a bit orange in these photos), quite thick walled and chunky. I think there is a little silver leaf under the chips and canes too. Base is ground and unpolished, height 10cm.

Have just noticed a single blob of green aventurine (could be mica), visible top left in the first photo. There is something familiar about this vase but so far I have not been able to pin it down.

It's making me think in two and a half directions at the same time, so I'm very confused - more so than normal.

A. Need to ask Flying-free about the contemporary vases/beakers she has with hands stuck to them. Can't remember who it was made them! :-[

B. (i) There is a something about the splodges that reminds me of Benny Motzfeldt's "Cherry Orchard" vase, (1976) but if you look at p115 of the Benny Motzfeldt book, there is a round chunky vase with things stuck to it, so that would not preclude her.

B. (ii) There is something about the splodges and the patch of green aventurine that makes me think of my Gro Bergslein from Hadeland.

It does look fairly recent though. It's got something about it, John, I just don't know what.  ???

That sounds like Karlin Rushbrooke. Interesting that Benny vase and Bergslein too.

Thanks Sue.

That's it, Karlin Rushbrooke. :) 8)

But I wouldn't put it past Jane Charles (contemporary Scottish maker, who works both for herself and makes the blanks for Julia Linstead's engravings) either.
