Hi All,
I purchased this rather battered paperweight at a boot sale today and wondered if anyone could identify it for me please.Sorry about the poor photo's.

Well, if you did, well done. :P
It's an antique French St Louis Camomile on single swirl (at least the swirl seems to single-direction only, although it is pink and whiite so double-coloured).
Value is rather more than you will have paid at the boot fair.
Cleaned up it will be even better ... both to look at and in value.
Where's the smiley for Exceedingly Green with Envy?

I actually paid £7 for it, much more than my norm :roll: :wink: . I just had a feeling it was worth more even given the damage. It was quite an expensive stall with a comman Mdina weight demanding £12, no less.
I am delighted, thanks so much. :D :D :D .
Where would I go to have it "cleaned up" please?

Yes very excited Christine, this is the very reason I enjoy Booting so much you just never know what you are going to find. It's just like treasure hunting. :D

For cleaning up, I can recommend Bob Hall at
http://bobhallpaperweights.co.uk/
He uses a process that does not generate much heat and is therefore less likely to cause problems during grinding and polishing. He is also very reasonble with his pricing.

Fabulous proof once again that if you keep hunting, you will find a treasure. Maybe once, maybe twice, who knows, but they are out there.
A beautiful St. Louis paperweight, valued in the hundreds, but certainly worth keeping.
And I love the bargain price. I too, as previously posted somewhere, have found lucky treasures.
Ain't life grand? Isn't collecting paperweights a joy?

Yes, there are treasures out there. I also love Art Nouveau and Art Deco items and found two super metal very typically stylized pieces one in pewter and another in copper, dating from around 1910 in the same boot sale that I purchased the stunning Saint Louis paperweight. Neither cost me more than $5. I also collected 5 other quality items. A fabulous day.
I don't know if you have the equivilent of the car boot sale in the States, but I try to visit at least 5 within a 50 miles radius of my home, every weekend. Each one has upwards of 100 car owners trying to sell off their clutter. I almost always find something special to bring home, but last weekend was very special.
