Title: Cross shaped vase ID = des'r Bodil Kjaer for Orskov made by Gullaskruf
Post by: WhatHo! on November 04, 2010, 07:23:57 PM
Hi, this is another vase which i think someone will recognise. Mould blown in an indigo colour, 11.5cm tall and has the remains of an unreadable oval label with silver foil on it, thank you, Wolfie

Hi, the lady I bought this off said it was purchase in Denmark, so maybe Scandi? Thanks for any help, Wolfie

Reminds me of the original vases made by Iittala Alvar Aalto.........maybe its a more contemporary inspiration on those.

Seen them about, no great quality, poorly finished, sorry but no idea either. :-[

Hi, i would say it has reasonably well finished. The top has been ground flat and nicely polished then the edges are bevelled, certainly on par with mould blown Whitefriars stuff from the 70s, coffins etc (which isn't brilliant I admit!). The foil label also is similar to Scandi stuff from that period, shame there is nothing on it! There is a fair bit of natural wear to the base and for something that is quite light suggests it has been around for a bit? My feeling is that it 70s but I may be wrong. Thx for your replies.

You assume a lot about finish and quality. Take care, do not jump to conclusions or assumptions. There is a huge big world out there....

How frustrating - I've seen these before, but can't track them down in my references. I think they're by one of the 'lesser' Danish or Swedish glassworks, although I really can't remember which one.

These have been on here before, but can I find any in Search?  Nope!  I think they're also been on wf.com.  I can remember seeing one in tangerine before.  I'm sure I've seen one identified somewhere but not sure whether it was in a book or not.  Sorry...this isn't really adding anything.

Isn't that an Ingrid Glass label?

It says Torben Ostrov & Co Denmark, with an intertwined Tand O.

Firstly, I let John make the supper, then
I looked through all the cross glass pictures, then....and this is the most amazing...............
I put cross shaped art glass vase in Google images.....voila!!
It looked similar, and I followed the link and that one led to another similar one, and so on until I got a name for a maker,
then another one which had a label!
Simples!!  :sun:

BTW the label reads Torben Orskov and not Ostrov...

Google finds quite a lot of items, but not much glass. - So maybe a retailer?

Hi, thanks for all your help! I think we might have cracked it, Torben Orskov Co designed by Bodil Kjær, nice result. I wonder who actually made them, presume T.O. would have designed them then got a company to make them? The label on mine is defo oval and not the same as the previous one mention but i guess labels change. Here's one the same as mine, thanks again,

I have just re-found the link I discovered this lovely vase in, it was:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Danish-Modern/397836892003

scroll down and you see the vase, then I cut and pasted that link in Google to get the link I gave you.....so the spelling mistake was them, not me....I feel exonerated!!  I pride myself on my spelling!!
It seems Bodil Kjaer was a woman, and a very prolific designer in the 60's....I love anything Scandi, especially Danish....this is a nice vase Wolfie.

Can't understand how I missed this thread before, but anyway. The designer is indeed Bodil Kjaer, who was/is Danish, and they were produced in Sweden at Gullaskruf. I attach an ad from a Swedish interior design magazine (1964).

On going back over this thread,  I decided to look further into cross shaped vases and to my dismay,  came across this advert:

http://centuryview.en.alibaba.com/product/587757429-50121640/_font_b_cross_b_font_shaped_clear_glass_font_b_vase_b_font_unique_shape_for_font_b_flower_b_font_arrangements_wholesale.html

So beware of imitations!!

The 500 range vases designed by Bodil Kjaer was for Dansk (Danish) Design and made by Gullaskrufs glasbruk, and generally called 'kryss-vaser' (x-vases).
