Title: Is this a newish 'Made In Italy' label ? Green bottle-shaped vase with festoons
Post by: Baked_Beans on May 29, 2010, 05:48:52 PM
This vase is 41cm tall and is made of green bottle glass with spiral creamy-white festoons and faint spiral ribbing.
I'm not sure if the label is modern. Could possibly be by G Hardy having looked through the labels thread here on GM's . Can you buy them in Ikea ? Or is the vase from a 60's/70's era ? (hopefully). Cheers, Mike.

Your bottle is an Alrose bottle. There are some pictures of them here: http://www.20thcenturyglass.com/glass_encyclopedia/murano_glass/alrose_glass/alroseglass_home.html.
The label is not new. Your bottle would have originally had a stopper like some that are pictured on the page.

I read through some of your other questions again. I don't think there is any link to G. Hardy. I don't know much about Alrose except the bottles are made in Italy. I'm not sure if anyone knows much about Alrose, and if they do, they aren't talking.  :-X

Thanks Anita, That is fantastic  :chky:. It's definately a bottle/decanter and it looks exactly like the taller red and green ones 2nd row down which don't have stoppers ! I think it's a huge stopperless decanter/caraf as there is no internal grinding at the opening to the neck. It says in your link that these bottles may not have been made in Murano but in the Empoli region. Definately not G Hardy...label is't the same ! Thanks loads ! I guess it was made in the 1960's then ?

I checked my files and saw that I have a picture of a blue bottle that is just like yours except color. It has the same red sticker as yours, too. (Oh, no. I can feel an association forming for what is probably a generic sticker.) I don't know the dates for these bottles. They look kind of 1970ish to me. Maybe someone else will know for sure.

Oh , that's great ! Did yours have a stopper ? (I'm haunted by stoppers and lids !....it seems with my luck there is either one missing or it's a marriage !) . It's very odd that there isn't much info. about Alrose  :-\

The picture I have was "borrowed" off the internet to have a record of the form. It doesn't have a stopper, either. The two bottles on the left of the 20th Cent. glass site have the stoppers I'm used to seeing. I'll bet a replacement is a rascal to find.

Thanks Anita,

I checked the one for sale on 20thC-glass and mine has the same dimensions (the height includes the stopper).

You are exactly right it would have had a stopper probably with cork or rubber (hence no grinding).

As you say it's going to be a real slog trying to find one  ::).
