Title: Jobling candlestick RD no 724094 = Weardale
Post by: Anne on January 12, 2009, 01:13:16 AM
Does anyone have access to a Jobling pattern book or list which would tell me what Jobling pattern number or name relates to the RD no 724094 please?  The RD number is found on a clear glass candlestick, which appears to be a part of a trinket set, but it's not the 12500 pattern as shown on Chris Stewart's Cloudglass website (http://www.cloudglass.com/Joblingcat.htm) (different shape and different RD no.)

Thanks in hope. :)

(PS and does anyone know how many trinket set patterns Jobling made?)

If memory serves me right this is the weardale pattern

they made this in an amazing range of items

Incidently your candlestick is the only one I've ever seen coloured (blue one pair only) as well as your flint

cheers

Mike

Mike thank you so much for such a swift reply, and for your information. Do you happen to know if Weardale also had a pattern number as well as a name please? Is it part of a trinket set or is it a standalone candlestick?

Anne — Weardale came in green, amber or flint, possibly other colours, possibly satin.   1135 oblong tray, which also doubled up as the tray for the 1+4 flint only hors d'oeuvres set, 1132 puff jar, 2 x 1133 powder jars, 2 x 1138 5" candlesticks, optional ring stand, possibly pin tray.

Also 2626 trinket set, looks very much like the trade catalogue version of the Bagley 2231 David trinket set.   Blue, green, amber or flint, polished or satin, possibly other colours.   Choice of diamond or oblong tray, puff jar, 2 x powder jars, 2 candlesticks, round pin tray, possibly ring stand.

Hope that helps.

The candlesticks and ring holder, and presumable the whole trinket set, also came in clear blue. Oddly the ones I have came with a tray which belonged to the honey pot set -not sure if it was an original match or a match invented by the dealer selling it!

I've always assumed 'weardale' was the Jobling design aimed at the ever popular Chippendale market -there were loads of designs - somewhere I have a weardale lidded cheese dish, -the kind shape like a wedge of cheese - sauce boat and dish, stemmed cake stand, suger and cream and a pair of miniature salts.

cheers

Mike

Bernard, thank you, it does indeed, much appreciated. I think I may have one of the David lookalike trays in the collection as well - I'll dig it out and post a photo later.  8)

Mike thanks again for the extra information, much appreciated. :)

Mike — There are at least 66 pattern numbers in Jobling's Weardale range, and that doesn't include different sizes!

Anne — The main design element of Jobling's 2626 trinket set is a small acute angled fan of from two to six imitation cuts.   These have been combined in the centre of the tray to form a Star of David with a clockwise rotating 6-paddle waterwheel in the centre.

That sounds exactly like mine, Bernard! I think I may have matching candlesticks as well - I'll need to do some more photos asap and check! Thanks again. :)

Found a small picture of my tray lurking in a file, saves me rooting it out of the box again!  Bernard, is this the 2626 tray you were meaning please?

Anne — Yes, no doubt whatsoever, that's Jobling's 2626.   Here's Bagley's 2231 David trinket set (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2001.300) at Pontefract Museum for comparison.

Thanks for the confirmation Bernard, it's good to pin another one down. :)  I have a David tray and candlesticks as per Pontefract Museum photo as well (no pots or pin tray as yet but I'm still looking for them.)

Anne — Pleased to help.   Incidentally, the other version of Bagley's 2231 David trinket set is illustrated here (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2001.303).

Does your interest extend to cut trinket sets?

Yes, all glass trinket sets, Bernard. The site will eventually cover them all (she said optimistically!!!): www.glasstrinketsets.com (a work in progress with loads of help from friends both here and on the pottery board.)

Thought Bernard and others might like to see the rest of the Jobling 2626 set (minus pintray still - anyone have one going spare?)

Thanks to Steven (Mosquito)  :kissy:  I also now have a Weardale tray to match my Weardale candlesticks!  :hiclp:

Photo of clear trinket pots with raised RD 724094.  Large pot height 4 1/4 inches & small pots 3 1/2 inches. The glass have a very slight pink/purple hue to it.

Presumably these are the Weardale pots 1132 and 1133.

Can any of the GMB Jobling specialists confirm this, please?
