Title: Grey Glass Tumblers Holmegaard/WF?
Post by: Retro Mojo UK on November 29, 2012, 11:09:16 AM
I've got a set of six very cool tumblers from the 60s/70s. Pewter grey colour, looked at RSW Harlequin but not quite, wondered if
they could be Holmegaard or even WF?

There are pretty common in the charity shops. I assume they were sold in Woolworths.

The characteristics and feel of these tumblers make them appear more than your usual Woolworths/charity shop fayre,

They are 1960s/70s, that much I'm sure off, the weight is very good, these aren't cheap tat,

These are a great style and well designed, the colour of the glass is very similar to Dartington and some Holmegaard,

Woolies used to sell Clarice Cliff - it was the Woolies kind of market she was aiming for, I believe - cheap and cheerful.
And Monart got their mica from Woolies in the winter. (It was their christmas "glitter" at the time.)
Woolies also used to sell Ladybird children's clothing - now you can't say that wasn't "up-market"!
Don't knock Woolies!

Your glasses are similar to, but not the same as the Wedgwood ones... sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Sue, many thanks for the info :-)

Dare I say it but am I the only retro seller out there that thinks Clarice Cliff feels like cheap tat?

I loved Woolies back in the day, To be honest I did read the first response as using Woolies in a derogative context!

No, you're not the only one.  ;D
Clarice Cliff is thouroughly nasty, outrageously expensive... cheap tat.
