A good point Ray
I know Goebel have been making frosted glass animals with clear octagonal bases for a while, here is their often seen eagle I have sold many times
(http://hometown.aol.co.uk/blackcatgla/images/goebeeag.jpg)
I have only recently noticed Nachtmann selling a similar type of animal with the same base (though some new ones have pedestalled bases etc.) through eBay. I have to admit I have never noticed a complete Goebel clone before, anyone know if there has been a merger or designer leap recently?
Miller A-Z has Nachtmann listed as a company based in Germany (1834 to present) and on the net it appears to still be a company in its own right; mind you they are both German companies (Goebel & Nachtmann).
I have Nachtmann vases and bowls but not animals
Ray - have you a photo of your donkey as I am getting very similar but not quite the same Nachtmann animals - I have just looked through about 100 on eBay old listings - could it be the items are similar but not quite with subtle diffrences?

I have a Nachtmann pony in this style. http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-262
The base is clear octagonal. The pony is frosted. There is an etched Nachtmann mark on the base http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-599 and a Crystal Creations clear plastic label on the side of the pedestal. Crystal Creations label is here: http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-590
I also noticed whilst Googling, that Nachtmann is now offered on the Dartington website here: http://www.dartington.co.uk/acatalog/Nachtmann.html (http://www.dartington.co.uk/acatalog/Nachtmann.html)

Thanks Anne the two Pony's are excatly the same with a Nachtmann and Goebel label
How confusing :?

Nachtmann is a huge company and will make figurines for anyone who commissions them. They have bought up several industries (such as Lenox USA) and are most succesful as crystal marketeers and producers.
Most of their wares are traditional with a high granny-appeal and most of us would not mistake them for works of art. Still, I was quite amazed at the quality of this pig. It is labeled "Princess House pets" - by Nachtmann

I also have this duck, made by Nachtmann and labelled "Princess House Pets"

I was passing the charity shop this morning when I saw this fellow lurking. I don't suppose he could be called anyone's pet, but he's sort of fun
http://tinypic.com/i214cm.jpg Any ideas who made him?

I would not be surprised if you're right on topic!

Who, me? On Topic? Wonders will never cease!

I know what you mean Ivo
Nachtmann’s production seems to vary, good information on them though thanks. I never realised they made so many products for other companies, amazing that Goebel would take Nachtmann glass figures and etch their names on them (but maybe not knowing that market)
One Nachtmann range I like has gadrooned decoration and is often gourd shaped, very heavy good crystal and simple shapes, I don’t think they do it anymore?
Here is a vase (not the best picture)

Ivo,
Didn't Nachtmann close down or get taken over recently. I remember trying to get hold of their catalogues a week after their archive all went on a skip
-
No-body should be surprised at any glass appearing with some-one else having their name on it. Last night Peter (Paradisetrader) and I were discussing Sevres-marked glass, but it is made for this famous porcelain house, by none other than Daum Freres. Manufacturers producing only for the advertising market, will produce glass for any-one, so why not major glass companies???
Regards,
Marcus

I can assure you that Sèvres and Daum are two brands which are made by CFC in their modern production facility in Vannes-le-Chatel; some Daum is still made in Nancy. The Sèvres cristal has no relation to the porcelain.

I agree with you Marcus. It seems a common practice in glass (for many years).
I think in some divisions of Ceramics as well (Spanish?).
My rug company 'Black Cat Studio' has range/ranges that are exclusive to us. We do whole ranges for other companies, but they are always different designs if they are going to put their label on them. It is that way through the whole surface pattern industry.
The glass industry seems looser and much more communicative on a whole. I wish the textile industry was like that, any sniff of a copyrighted design element in an other companies work and there’s a huge court case. There is no love lost between any of our competitors never mind a good working relationship

Hi Ivo,
CFC = something other than Chloro-fluoro-carbons, so????
Vannes-le-Chatel = Vannes Cristal also???

Marcus

Right, you've guessed it: Compagnie Francaise de Cristal. And yes, Vannes - where you will also find CERFAV, the "Centre européen de recherches et de formation aux arts verriers". It is a small world...

I somehow landed on this old thread while looking for something else !
Just as interesting reading the second time and ................
I sold a clear eagle which I have now found out is by Crystal D'Arques.
The modelling on it was very good ...I would not have imagined them to be the maker.
