Title: Oiva Toikka?
Post by: kenzierose789 on March 06, 2009, 12:05:36 AM
Hello, can anyone please let me know whether this is bird is by Oiva Toikka because it hasn't got any marks underneath and I thought all his pieces had identification. Thank you!

I can't see anything in Designlasin that's anything like this bird, particularly the beak. However, I'm not sure Designlasin covers all Toikka birds. It looks more like a FM Ronneby bird to me, although I haven't seen anything in this colour scheme. There are a coupe of people on the board who are Marcolin experts, so I'd be interested to hear what they say.

Very nice but it doesn't look like FM Ronneby to me.
I've never seen that type of beak/head on a Ronneby bird.

It's not like a Reijmyre beak either. I've seen Nason (Murano) birds with this look of beak, but they have a little more detail, i.e. eyes and more work done on the tail and wings. I suppose there's lots of companies who made birds like this.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

Hi,

I would definitely say Toikka, the shape and beak are very similar to the Rosy Finch, as regards to the bird not being signed, I must admit that I do have a couple of early seconds, and neither are signed, so perhaps the signing of seconds is a more recent thing

Cheers

Hello

You might want to check out the site www.glassbirds.com

They sell Oiva Toikka birds and other birds from Finnish glass artists.

Thank you for the info about seconds not being signed, very useful.  Also the Iittala birds website was very interesting. I have been told by someone else that this bird could be a Dipper, one of Toikka's earlier designs.

Could be Bianco Blu a Finnish studio in Fiskars.
