Title: Art Nouveau Style Crystal Vase New Photos
Post by: Connie on April 14, 2006, 10:09:30 PM: I bought this very large (11.75 in) crystal (clear) vase. It is mould blown with a rock crystal cutting - at least that is what I is the method of the design.

There is one area of the vase which has a small pebbled panel, that I believe is from a mould. But the rest of the design looks cut but very shallow and highly polished. The bottom has a recessed pontil mark which is polished. The bottom around the pontil mark is heavily marked with age scratches.

Any idea of the maker? It is much more impressive in real life.

Libbey is one of a few companies that had the expertise to do this intricate cutting and polishing at least here in America.

Post by: Connie on July 07, 2006, 11:01:58 PM: I was struck by the similarities in the cutting on Patrick's goblets and this vase. Not the actual design but the intricacy of the cutting and finish.

Could this also be Stevens & Williams?

Post by: Max on July 07, 2006, 11:22:12 PM: Strangely Connie, that's what I thought too. Mind you, it could be because I've spent a while looking for Patrick's goblet and I'm obsessing slightly!

Isn't this vase mould blown then cut? Is that a possibility?

Edit: I simply can't tell from the photos (although they're good). I thought at first some of the design was proud of the body of the vase. Not sure now.

Post by: Connie on July 07, 2006, 11:30:06 PM: Yes, Max it does appear to be mould blow first and then intricately cut over most of the surface of the vase.

It is a &itch to photograph because of the intricate design and the shape. I can't get a shot through just 1 layer of glass so all the shots are both side superimposed on each other :oops:
