Title: Help on ID of this Green Carnival Glass Bowl - ID = Fenton
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on June 21, 2006, 02:57:53 PM
Any help please on the ID of this Bowl , I am sure it is carnival glass , green in colour ,I would say its slightly iridescent on in inside , while just a clear green on the outside , there is a leaf and fruit pattern in relief on the outside  which I am not sure what it is, just over 8 inches in diameter

Hi Roy - it's Fenton's "Leaf Chain" in an ice cream shaped bowl.

Ice cream shape (ICS) = round and unruffled (which has nothing to do with "shaken but not stirred   ).

Classic, old Carnival Glass.

I forgot to tell you what the exterior pattern is called. That one is "Bearded Berry" (not Bearded Berty as one wag once put it   ). It is an exterior that is used on quite a few of Fenton's pieces. The piece goes by it's interior pattern name though - "Leaf Chain".

thanks Glen once  again you helped me out in record time , you certainly know Carnival glass, I think I may have to buy one or more of your books,I find its a good way of learning buying pieces if not too expensive and researching, can I ask you one other question as its my wife who has only just started collecting carnival glass, I only last week bought a pair of Northwood green ruffled Peacock bowls from Kempton Park very cheaply  they have the Northwood mark in a circle on base approx which year would they have been made

I'm pleased that I could help you Roy.

The green Peacocks bowls were a wonderful find. Congratulations. Green is a sought after colour in that pattern - and interestingly I have found that it seems the UK had proportionally more of them (for the size of the market) than the US did.

The date was circa 1912 (time frame for production possibly including a couple of years later).
