Title: Boxing lads tumblers
Post by: sph@ngw on January 02, 2007, 04:33:47 PM
I have recently bought six small 6 oz tumblers on eBay. They look like 1920-30's in style, hand made in clear glass with transfers of two young boxers in  "Dennis the Menace" style cartoon drawings colour transfers, wearing shorts and large gloves slogging it out. The tumblers have two thin lines around the base which is quite chunky with two ridges, hence the line marking. They are very charming!
I would have added a photo, but a friend married to a famous boxing promotor saw them squealed with delight, and pursuaded me to part with them as a Xmas present for hubby!
Does this ring any bells ?
I MIGHT pursuade her to let me take a photo if this might help! ::)

I would really like to see a photo!  :D

There are several possibilities of makers, but determining the age should narrow this down.

At some stage it might be worth moving the topic to the 'Slumped' forum, but well worth leaving here for now.

Sorry, I should have posted the link:

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/board,12.0.html

To give it the full title: "Slumped & Transfer Printed Glassware", but it can be left in the general Glass forum for the time being.

Edit: Nazeing items will appear here in due course! :D

It can be slightly confusing... but there is a strong overlap in that much commercial slump glass was transfer printed. The forum was set up to cover the two 'research-growth' areas. Seems to be about the right balance too. Note the header posting which illustrate that there are two threads to that forum.
