I have what I believe from research elsewhere is a Davidson Large Purple Cloud Glass # 9421 ...... but it has three peweter mounts around the rim. Haven't seen this elsewhere - so is it usual, and was it applied by Davidson or afterwards ?
The mounts only just curve under the rim and, having looked from the underside with a loupe, I can't see any damage they may be trying to hide !
Plate dimensions: 1.5" height / 11.3" diameter
Any information or ideas appreciated.
Thanks, Brian

Hi,
Raised a Post on this site on July 7th but no response yet - so just trying once more to see if anyone can help me with this.
Am I posting this is the right place ?
(see http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,48346.msg272587.html#msg272587)
I assume this plate is Davidson Cloud Glass, but I haven't found any information anywhere re additional Pewter decoration being applied to these items. Can anyone shed any light on this please ?
Thank You .....

Hi, I'm of no use at all but just wanted to say hang on awhile someone will pick this up and help you :-)
I've not seen this add on as standard anywhere it looks quite basic quality so if not hiding damage perhaps the pewter was added as it matched the tiered stand being used in some way?
If it were mine and was just clipped on by the edges I 'd be inclined to take it off lol ( just my opinion)
cheers! Mel

It looks like hiding damage as the distribution of the three pewter pieces is exactly where three grips for old fashioned plate wall hanging fixtures would be

forgive my confusion, but the perspective I'm seeing doesn't automatically show (to me) that it's a plate - although of course, it may well be. I have seen the odd cloud plate, and from memory they were quite flat, and I don't recall the ribbing as shown on this one.
Just for me, will you confirm please that it's not a bowl shape of some description - thank you. The reason for asking is that if it were not a flat plate then presumably there would be little likelihood of it having hung on a wall :)

Brian, rather than repost your query, please just reply to it to bump it back up the list again. I think no-one's responded before as none of us know why yours has mounts. It's not something I've ever seen before.
Is it a bowl or a plate? Can we have a straight on side view to see the profile?
I'm going to move this topic into British and Irish as it's clearly a Davidson piece and B&I is not as busy as Glass so it will stay visible longer.

Thanks for the replies.
Have been lucky to get some Olympics tickets (!) so away until next weekend.
So for those asking for a side profile photo, will add that on my return (didn't want you to think I was ignoring you).

Look forward to seeing them Brian, hope you enjoy the Olympics!

Hi everyone ...
I have added a side profile photo of this item as requested, plus one showing the whole of the ribbed back.
It matches eBay item 120897992898 sold by someone who seems a knowledgeable glass expert - which is why I described it as probably a 'Davidson Large Purple Cloud Glass # 9421'
Where these items ever valuable enough to warrant applying pewter decoration to hide any damage .... it has been quite well shaped, tooled and neatly applied !

Thanks for the extra pics, Brian. I've emailed Chris Stewart, author of the Davidson Glass book, to ask if he will look in and comment on your item. :)

Thanks Anne
I did email them myself just under a month ago having seen their Web site, but no response yet.
