Hi, Anne.
Dema and Sherdley/ Ravenhead were the two big UK makers of screen-printed glassware, although quite a lot seems to have been imported too - eg Durand from France. Lots also produced in the US by a number of different companies from the 30s onwards, although I haven't seen much on UK e-bay, which tends to suggest that the US companies weren't much interested in the UK as an export market.
I've never seen this shape in Sherdley/ Ravenhead packaging or marketing, so Dema or Durand would be my top guesses.

These glasses have been niggling me like an itch waiting to be scratched, as I see a lot listed on eBay. So I had a look through my archives and came across this advert:

Dated November 1953, Pottery Gazette & Glass Trade Review. Jones & Co is a known importer, but also a UK distributor.
However, I'm not totally convinced about the base being exactly the same as Anne's glass. These are also often seen with oodles of gilt decoration, but wouldn't a UK company, just coming out of a war recession, been a little more circumspect about this?

Thanks for the confirmation Heidi and David. I reckoned they dated back to the 60s-70s. I seem to remember them being around about that time. The Dema advert confirms that :)

My Mum has two of these which have four pointed stars (for want of a better description!) - rather like the one used in the Festival of Britain logo but without the rest of the logo) - I saw a set of them for sale on eBay last year in the same style, half were the four pointed pattern and the other half were regular five-pointed stars, and the seller had them listed as early 1950s because of the similarity to the FOB logo. I can't find the ref again though now.
Clayton Mayers * also marketed this shape in a smaller fruit juice size. (* Thanks David, I always spell that name wrong! ::) )

No, in my opinion - lots of glass from early 50's with gilt dec.

Yes, but Brit glass did tend to be rather 'subdued', with minimal gilt and the country was still under rationing and all luxury/fancy goods were still being exported. Wasn't there a company (Vitrea?) importing Czech glass with plenty of gilt decor?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Sherdley/ Ravenhead used gilt on the decorated tumblers until mid- late 60s.

All of my Pirelli (from 1946 on) Glassware has gilt decoration. Vasart also used it on some pieces. A piece of pottery gilded by Pirelli was made in the 1940's. Another 50's company Chatur also specialised in Gilding of glassware.

Yes, I know Frank - much of Chance glassware during this same period featured gilt - I was just trying to distinguish between the more conservative decoration from British companies, as opposed to the lavish gilt decoration featured elsewhere.
In particular, there are examples I have seen with multiple gilt banding, which I cannot see being attributed to a Brit company and more likely an import. I'm sure one example seen has a similar shape to Anne's glasses - if I find one on eBay I will post the ID.
