Title: Ysart? enamel porron
Post by: penelopepitstop on November 07, 2012, 06:41:46 PM
newbie here so have an interest in glass but dont know much about it.

Hope someone can help me with this.  I bought this at a flea market, it has two labels one in red saying Ysart Barcelona and a silver one.  I read that the Ysart family moved to Scotland about 1914.  Is this another off shoot of the same family?  Anyone has ideas on dates? Any help on the piece and would be grateful.

Hi and welcome to the gmb! :)

I suspect this is going to create a great deal of interest and discussion, not to mention a great deal of drooling and several very wet keyboards.
I can't help you myself, but I'm getting my coffee and choccie biccies and taking a ringside seat.

Before it all kicks off, could we ask you pretty please, for images of the labels, a clear image of the base (we like looking at bottoms) and how that has been finished off, and some details of the rim and handle?

(woops, cross posting - thanks for the pics of the labels - but the red one doesn't blow up)

Gordiola with a retail label - not related to the Scottish operation I think.

~The only strange difference with this is that mine also has the red label saying Barcelona.  On the Ysart site it says Pueblo espanol in Majorca.....and they only have the one silver label.

Thanks for all the info, just googled it and there is one outside Barcelona too which opened in 1929.

Pueblo Espanol is in Barcelona, not Mallorca.

Ivo is correct in what he is saying. Could the signature that is in the pattern be Royo or Cirera? If it is Cirera, it will look more like Cire...

Porrón in clear glass with prunt and label from the Poblo Espanol in Barcelona, circa 1970s.

On the Ysart site it said it ws Mallorca.  But its a group of shops so its where its made but doesnt explain the maker, there is a phone number on the label too.  I like it and the label does have a 60s or 70s appearance.

penelopepitstop, you mentioned there was a signature in the pattern. You probably missed my earlier question. Is it Royo or Cirera?

Yes, it is Cirera. This is Genis Cirera Casonovas. He lived much of his life in Barcelona, where he had a workshop. They decorated glass that I've been told was made at the Gordiola Glassworks. A large volume of his work is from the 1930s, but there was later work. I don't know what year your pitcher would have been made. If you google his name, you can learn more about him and see some of the things he made. It may help you to put a date on your glass.

Many thanks.  I am well impressed reading the forums with the knowledge people have.

Hi, yes there is/was also one in Mallorca. Nice to see a more complete label and of course it moves the example on Ysartglass.com to Barcelona as well as giving a better dating to suit Ivoś original thoughts there... another one to update.

Note also that Isart with an I is also the original spelling for the unlikely to be related Ysart family. Having a signature on your piece also helps to indicate that Isart was a retailer there.

yes that makes sense.  It just adds to confusion being in Barcelona also.  I only paid £5 at a flea market so another good buy, I really like it.l
