This item went too high for me. I'm still wondering if I should have tried harder to get it. The registration mark seems to suggest Percival Vickers or Jules Lang. I think the bowl is a mismatch and is Sowerby though.

I've never seen this pedestal base before and I wonder how unusual it is?
Edit: I thought this pedestal was in the shape of an OWL initially...I've altered the title thanks to Tigerchips.

Which one has the registration number, the base on the bowl or base on the owl?
It seems strange to me that either piece would have a victorian registration number when they both look Art Deco? :?
Max, this isn't a paperweight is it? You must have big papers as you've posted it in the Paperweights section.
-
On second thoughts, the owl might be a victorian design.
-
The owl has the registration mark I believe. I don't know how I posted it in the wrong section Tiger! Duh! Thanks for your interest. :D
-
Owl?
This isn't an owl Max, they're cherubs.
It's easy to see why you thought it was an owl as I thought the same thing. I've been looking everywhere for this owl.

I googled for it and found this.

Well, fiddle-dee-dee. :x Cheers Tiger...you have no idea how much time I wasted Googling combinations of Owl/Pedestal/Various Companies!
Looks like that's one interesting piece of glass, and it seems the bowl IS a match, not as I suspected. I see that others have made the Jules Lang connection too...but I didn't know about Walther part.
I think there might be a couple of people on this board that would have wanted that item too. :? Thanks for your help Tiger, I appreciate it.

Interesting to note that the Registration number on the ebay one is "256480" and the one on that link is "756470". Two numbers are different, the seller on ebay must have made a mistake.
-
We had this query a way back too. I don't think the tinypics are still there, but believe me it's the same item. I have a pale blue cherub base - but I still don't have the bowl.

just passing by and as always being in a hurry: neither the stand nor bowl are Walther items IMHO
-
Hi,
Here is another version, I nearly bid on but forgot
ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLUE-ART-DECO-GLASS-FLOWER-BOWL-BAGLEY-SOWERBY-DAVIDSON_W0QQitemZ7422973432QQihZ016QQcategoryZ70031QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Lovely colour,
Barbara

what a tremendous marriage you forgot to bid on, Barbara 8)
it is bashful Charlotte
in a maybe Walther frog
in a maybe Bagley bowl
on an unknown cherub stand

I'm twisted and highly amused at the same time :D
-
:D :D It's quite a funny marriage, isn't it. Aestheticly it just ends up being too much with all the figural aspects. But still, some interesting individual pieces there.
Max, interested in pressed glass? Whatever next? :)

Well, when you learned everything there is to know about other types of glass...
(does that sound like a reasonable excuse? Hmm...not sure people will believe me...   )
The real reason is, I'm beginning to make a bit of headway in sorting out (mentally) one piece of pressed glass from another and I like the fact that a lot of British press glass is just so darned old! :D
