Here's a piece that our friends, appraiser and auction rep have not been able to give us a clue on. We can't find it on the web (so far). I've been told it might not be a Punch Bowl, that is has a more defined usage, which makes sense to me due to the depth of the cups and bowl, and there's a lid.

Overall 16" tall
18" across - handle to handle
Center piece is 10 1/2" deep and 7 1/4 wide
Cups are 3 3/4" tall
The glass is thick and heavy. I believe it is crystal.
The only identifying mark is "Made in Germany" on one of the flat pieces that the brackets screw into that hold the arms to the base.
Thanks for any leads or ideas on what this was used for.

Probably for Gluwein (German) Mulled Wine (English)
= Wine warmed with sugar and spices.
A favorite on the pistes (skiing).
Than would explain the lid and poss also the deeper shape.
The metal on the bases of the glasses would conduct heat an warm the glasses before pouring and I guess would retain the heat better while drinking too. Once the required number of the glasses are poured the "tray" section lifts up and over for handing round to drinkers / guests and the server doesn't have to handle the hot glasses.
Is there space underneath the main container for a heater / warmer candle ?
A wonderful set.
Whats the metal ?

I agree with Peter, it does look like it could be for mulled wine.
Incidentally, in Finland it is known as glöggi. They infuse the warm wine with spices and also add almonds and raisins. Totally addictive. We loved it so much that we bought a set of glasses in metal holders a little like the ones in the photo.

Thank you for the feedback. I believed there was a reason for the ability to lift the tray with the cups in order to serve it. The handle for the tray is glass.
The overall metal is Brass. I think it would be difficult to have a heating source under the bowl - the primitive steel soldered frame only holds it 3/4" off the base. But it all points to being a server for heated liquids.
If someone could share with us a picture of something like this, even more modern, I would greatly appreciate it. I guess I could Google the terms and add "server" to it... couldn't I? hehehe
Any guesses as to the age? My partner never saw it in use when he was a child (he hates when I use him as a gauge for "antiquity" :wink: ) and his parents have a lot of items passed down to them from their parents. I'm guessing very early 1920-30.

Perhaps the idea would be to stand it on a hotplate rather than over a candle then? I've not seen one of these before, but I love it!
