Title: Help! Small square speckled bottle - ID = PLUS Glasshytta, Norway
Post by: Anne on December 23, 2010, 08:44:50 PM
Can anyone throw light on what the mark on this small square bottle might relate to please... the bottle is 3½" (90mm) tall, and is 2½" (64mm) square on the base. The neck opening takes my index finger in it and does not have a ground collar to suggest it ever had a stopper. The base glass is clear and it looks like the gather has been rolled into mulberry and white frit before being blown to shape (presumably in a mould?) The rim is very slightly out of level, it has a wee bump - presumably where the cutting for the rim started or ended? On the base can be seen the base clear glass more clearly, along with a slightly roughish but level pontil scar, and a mark (acid etched?) which looks to me like
PLUG (or) FLUG
YM (or) NM
(3rd line unreadable - could just be an underline)

Can anyone decipher this stamp for me please? I'm tried everything I can think of and then some and am still clueless as to who made this piece. ]

A few more pics, including a blow up of that pesky mark!

It's easy to see now you've said it Ivo!  :rah:

PLUS Glasshytta, Frederikstad, Norway. (As shown in Ivo's magical little book, Miller's glass fact file a-z.)   :hiclp:

Ivo you've made my day, I was convinced I'd struggle getting an ID on this one, thank you! :kissy:

Rose, thank you for trying for me, you're a star!  :sun:

I think the BM part of the mark means it's a Benny Motzfeldt design.

Oooohh John and M, thank you! BM - I'd not considered it being a B... Benny Motzfeld would be good! And that dates it to after c.1970 according to Ivo's magical little book. My mysterious little orphan now has a name and a family - yay!  :rah:

Copy of the mark is added in Norwegian glass labels on GlassGallery too for future reference.

I also see that Maria Anne recently listed a vase with the same (but much clearer!) stamp in Market Place: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=37164.0 - my stamp is so much fuzzier but it's obviously the same shaped letters, just harder to read!!!  :pb: Great to see a better version.  8)

Keith that may be by Richard Duborgh for Plus.  Might be worth looking into.

What a gorgeous colour that is against the light, Keith!
