Title: WMF candlesticks?

The hi & lo modern shop would have that these are WMF candlesticks. Can anyone confirm this diagnosis?

Hello Cathy,

I think you'll find these are designed by Nils Landberg for Orresfors in the 1950's. Whilst they have a name, it escapes me at the moment.

They are selling these in the T.K.Max by us at the moment, will have a look and see what the sticker says next time I am in there, I think they were £4.99 each though.

Lou, these were bought from an estate sale in Australia, so it's not likely that they are TK Max - we don't have a TK Max here in Australia.

Nigel, I think the pattern name you are thinking of is Tulpanglas or tulip glass. Those seem to be both finer and cased.

The Hi & Lo modern shop's one is about mid way down this page. It looks pretty much identical to my two.

Hello Cathy,

Although there is an assocaition with the Tulip (Tulpanglas) series because of Landberg's use of the drawn stem flaring out to the wide foot, you are quite right to observe that those pieces are cased, whereas your candlesticks are not. That is the link that first made me feel that these candlesticks were indeed by Nils Landberg when I first saw them years ago. Like you though I could not pin them down as I could find no illustration.

Nowadays we have the Internet. It's wonderful to use when the information that's available is correct :shock: , but if someone else describes it as, say, WMF, why should you question it? Well you have. Possibly like me you thought that they had resemblance to the Tulip glass series, which is why you put the question in the first place.

Answer to your question? Orresfors "Gabriel" candlesticks code number 1724/11 NL, height 190mm. Also avalilable in sizes 230 and 270 - codes 1724/12 and 1724/13 respectively. Originally self-coloured transparent glass (various colours), but laterly only in clear.

Nice one Cathy & Nigel!  :D I found them by accident last night in a Google search for Orrefors candlesticks (looking for something else entirely lol) and forgot to put them on the board for you.  :roll:

I'm glad you've found out what they are, congrats!  It's great to have a pair too, one candlestick always looks a bit sad to me.   :D
