Title: Bohemian I think ????
Post by: Roger H on November 27, 2012, 09:51:28 PM
Aquired this recently and I really think it is lovely.
Believe its bohemian but cant decide on a decade, diameter is 2.80 inches and I call it a crown!!!  Regards, Roger Harry, in case you ever wondered what the H was for.

Hi

I think it is a 'marquee'  or 'festoon' rather than a crown, but whatever....regarding age, I suspect mid / late 20th century Czech Republic (so still 'Boho' in some ways).

I wondered if somebody might think it was around that age, perhaps because of the clarity. Thank you, Roger.

To me it looks like it may be from Portugal rather than Bohemian.  Compare to another Portuguese weight:

Hi Alan, does the base look similar could you say? I can see the similarity of design but have you seen ribbons like my weight in portugese weights?
I'll have a look on your website now.
      Regards Roger

No, the Portuguese weight has a clear ground and simpler ribbons.  I was just trying to suggest another source to explore.

Thank you gentlemen for your observations. Any relationship to this one do you think? Roger.

Doubt it. The theory on these is that they were likely made at Pilkington's  in St Helen's. I have a small collection, all acquired within 15 miles of St Helen's (and there have been one or two others I haven't bought because the sellers wanted more than I wanted to pay). This search (http://www.lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?search=pilk&submit=search&album=search&title=on&newer_than=&caption=on&older_than=&keywords=on&type=AND) shows them along with an interloper

Christine, thank you for the input. looks like they could both be 1960s Czeck/Bohemian but one from europe and one from the pilkington range. The UV light shows different colours.
I also had at one time a very well made flower and pot from pilkington as per photo.       Roger.
