Title: Cast textured candleholders - Swedish or Finnish?
Post by: Pinkspoons on May 09, 2010, 08:48:23 PM
I've a pair of these, and I know I've seen them before, but I can't for the life of me find the maker anywhere.

The texture on the side is quite remeniscent of Jorma Vennola's 'Kuusi' (Spruce) series for Iittala, but I can't find anything that matches. Likewise, it doesn't pop up in any of the Kosta Boda references I have.

Any help much appreciated.

Could it be Nybro?  May be worth checking :)

Cheers, Anne. Nybro hadn't even crossed my mind - I'll look into it.  :)

Did anybody ever find and answer on these as i have one too. Had assumed it was Iittala as the design on the sides is the same as a Iittala fish paperweight i was thinking of buying recently at a fair (unfortunitly didnt get it though)
would it be possible to move this over to glass, maybe get a result on it there?

And just to confuse things  - I've seen a matching pair with Galway Crystal labels.  These might or might not be original to the pieces.  Might be worth contacting them?

Pukeberg is another thought.

Galway could be a possibility - they certainly did a tealight votive a few years back that was heavily "inspired by" the 'Snowball' votives by Kosta.

Nope - not me!

I've tried looking up this Kosta 'Volcano' series, but I can't find any other references except for various eBay auctions - none of which provide any evidece. So I'm a touch sceptical.

Not mine either.
Will keep searching for a definate. Although being that a stickered Galway one has been mentioned would imagine that's the answer

Here's a genuine Kuusi pattern candle holder that might help to see if the patterning is the same as yours.  I know the shape is different, but I thought the surface pattern might help.

Yep, Galway had these before boxed and have seen others with labels on, not that collectable at the moment.
Shame though as they are nice pieces.
