Title: Nice MDINA Pieces- Test on New laptop and camera.
Post by: Andy on July 12, 2011, 11:01:14 AM
Just fiddling with new camera and software.
I dont think ive shown or seen a similar little squat vase like this one before.
Bought on ebay a few years ago from a seller in Malta, listed as Maltese vase  ;D

Not sure how large these photos are going to be.
Andy

Edit .  seems to work ok, last one resized a bit bigger and added.

Thought the pictures would be bigger as over 100kbs ?

Polished pontil mark and lovely early label.

There are at least triplets, and I do know of a few others - this is a particularly lovely shape - years and years ago (before Mdina got popular) I did do the "what bits would I save in a fire", and managed to get it down to 32 bits, my one of those (32) was my one of these. Round, smooth polished pontil mark, naturally.  :smg:
m - Andy's is very curvy.
Your attributing gender to art reminds me of a time I was in the Riiksmuseum with Michael - he was gazing at a massive and beautiful Dutch wardrobe, the kind with a big, bellying-out base, completely lost in enchantment. When he finally noticed I was watching him, he blushed and said;
"I'm a man. I like curves."

I might have guessed you would have one Sue  ::)

Still confused with the photos, Sue, yours are only 14 and 22 kbs, mine are over 100 , but much smaller

I have yet to get my head around the size issue too Andy. It seems that images can be compressed to a greater or lesser degree but I have yet to play with that. I have just found a method that works for me and the software that I already have on my machine.

I have yet to buy one of those vases, for one reason of another I have always failed to buy one. Worse still I see you have two! :o

I have to agree, gender can be applied to all sorts of things, it's a gut feeling sort of thing. ;D

I've got PaintShopPro on my machine.
After cropping and turning (if needed), I simply click on the "image" bit of the toolbar again (that's where I rotate and crop too), click on "resize", and set the longest side of the pic. to 800 thingys.
Then I click on "save as" in the toolbar, click on "options" at the bottom of the box, set the compression factor to 40 (it's permanently set at 40), then "save" it with a gmb stuck on the end of the name, and it's done, ready to load here.

Greg, Yours is closest to the stubby little top on my one, mine is more oval from the side, like a shrunken globe vase ;D

Ach - what do you want with one of these common things, John.  :24:
I though you were only into far more exclusive, one-off Michael Harris pieces!

Well done, didn't see that one for sale. Were you the only bidder..?

Look forward to the pictures.

Yep - I saw it, very nearly bid too LOL.  It's not a verdala shape though, this is a bowl with an inverted rim, less common and not often seen for sale.  I have one in amethyst and I know another forum member has one in an early tiger pattern.  There is a version in the Mdina/IOW book page 28.  Would love to see some pics once you've got it.

Hi Suzy / Andy,

Speaking of these bowls, I purchased one the other day which I wasn't completely sure about as the photo quality was very poor.

Attached a few photos, again it has an inverted rim. Looking at the bowl since it arrived, am I right in saying this is the more modern Tiger pattern. It is marked Mdina to the base and something like '01' would this be the date for this particular piece..?

Whilst, much later than its companion in the last photo, is this shape still relatively uncommon even at a later date..?

Good to see a few pics of your bowl Andy.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Andy,

I bought it on the 12th of this month on ebay. The seller was a business seller, called the 'The Used Company' they had it for sale as a 'Buy It Now' of £9.99, although the photo was terrible. Looking at their details I think their based in Alfreton Derbyshire...?

Do you think its the same bowl...? - I presume yours was marked '01'..?

Thanks,
Greg

The modern version of Tiger is called Marble and is still produced.  I don't follow modern Mdina so couldn't say whether they are common or not, the earlier Tiger bowl of yours Greg is gorgeous, I certainly would have bid had it not disappeared so quickly.

Im pretty sure its the same one, the auction was 29th June, so about right. Do you remember if the seller was selling
other glass items?  If im selling a few bits at auction, mostly old junk ive picked up and wondered why i bought them, i
find if you put a piece of Mdina, and one or 2 interesting pieces, it encourages the bidders  >:D
Ive just had a look through my photos and i havent got one of the bowl, i meant to take a picture of all the pieces in
the lot, so i could remember what id sold, but forgot!

Suzy, glad you didnt bid for the other bowl, i thought you would spot it  ;)  Im surprised i didnt see Gregs bowl go through,
as i usually have a look at whats selling in Mdina.
Also love the larger Tiger bowl of Gregs !

Hi Andy,

Could well be the same bowl, strangely enough, I actually don't live that far away from Bourne End. The seller seems to sell a lot of China and cut glass, and a couple of bits of Murano.

Strange how stuff seems to do the rounds.  Is your new inverted rimmed bowl all one colour/shade of blue Andy..?

Hi Andy,

Thanks for adding the pics of your new bowl, I was intrigued to see the colour.

I was looking at a similar bowl to yours the other week, although reluctantly decided not to purchase as a little pricey.

They look great in the light, pick ups so much more of the detail. Out of interest, what are the size dimensions of yours..?

If your missing your previous bowl, (dated 01), which I acquired, I am more than happy to do a swap with this one..?

Greg
