Title: Miss America? English Hobnail? Indiana Diamond Pointe help!!
Post by: vintagerose on September 19, 2006, 10:59:44 PM
This 2 tier mint dish was obviously put together.
I need help pinning down the pattern. The rays are equi distant and the points seem not too flare. Is it Miss America? or if now then what?

It's definately not Miss America. I think it's an anchor hocking piece but can't remember what it's called.

I'm saying it isn't Miss America because I've seen those dishes before & they were never called Miss America. I could be wrong but my books don't show a piece in that shape.

The pattern doesn't look very sharp. Does it feel sharp? Miss America feels sharp.

Hi,
yes my books don't show that shape, however it does state that square plates were made. It does feel sharp, especially on the bottom.
Also the tips don't flare out like english hobnail, and the rays are equi distant.  But I still am unsure.  I have not been to replacements yet, but I have found errors there, so not always full proof.
I was hoping someone had a picture or a thread of square miss america plates, or has seen this pattern and knows it.  The crimped edges is what has me unsure.
Thanks,
VR

Not Miss America or English Hobnail.  They both have a little pattern within the diamond points.

Here is a good picture of the Miss America pattern - you will have to scroll down since they are listed alphabetically.

I don't know the name of the pattern of your dishes.  But the only pieces I have seen are those small square dishes.

Ok, I go with the board.
How about Federal?
I started going through my books again, and again, just in case I missed it, but alas I only found the inside of my eyelids lol

Hello,

Yes;  the glass bowl parts are by the Federal Glass Company, in their "Traditions" pattern, which is very, very common. Decorating & lamp companies often purchased these bowls and made decorator\accent items by fitting them with the metal parts.

Ebay value on these items, as well as the bowls alone is very low when they are rarely bid on. --- Mike

High five and thanks to Butchiedog for another mystery solved.

Now for wrightloutlook. I believe the pattern is called Miss America because it reminds you of the beauty pagent. Being as the woman are so beautiful, so this glass is also. A pretty name for pretty glass.
Miss America was made by Hocking Glass Company 1935-1938 and is highly sought after.  Hope you find some!
