Title: Does anyone know the maker of my colour change Alexandrite Neodymium Glass Pls?
Post by: chriss on December 07, 2012, 10:04:30 PM
Hi
I have a colour change Alexandrite Neodymium Glass 5 and 3/8" tall (perfume?) bottle and I was hoping that someone recognised the shape to determine the maker please? I'm sure it's Alexandrite Neodymium glass as it's pink under white spot light and in natural daylight conditions, pale lilac under energy saver light bulbs and glows under uv black light. I've tried to do my homework and I'm sure this type of glass was made by Moser (I think Moser invented it?) and other Czech makers, Murano, French and Caithness but I can't find any references to this shape of bottle. I don't know it's age but it has a bit of contact wear to the base, no pontil mark.
Thanks  :)

Have you tried Murano - Seguso Vetro D' Arte?  I'm sure I have seen similar bottles of this type.

It is not neodymium - no colour change.

The photographs tell me it is Neodymium. I would be looking at one of the American makers - Heisey, Tiffin etc. who used this colour extensively.

Hi, thanks for your replies :)
The glass is pink under halogen light (incandescent?) and a pale blue/lilac under the long life (fluorescent?) bulbs  ? I had looked in 20th century glass definition of neodymium glass and thought it was similar differences? I have taken another photo without backing colour to detract, showing the blue/lilac effect more clearly, though it is a slightly richer blue tinge than the camera could pick up  :)

Sorry, I just expected more of a distinct colour change, can see it now.

Having background colours detracting didn't help either :)

I picked one of these up today too - no marks or clues as to who it might have been made by. The neck of the bottle is slightly oval rather than round so the stopper doesn't sit straight or true. Mine is also neodymium glass.
