Title: Green aventurine with opal tears and shell handles

Now this one looks rather odd to my eyes, somehow the bright green and copper aventurine doesn't work with the opal tear drops and little shell handles.  I ran the black light over it and nothing fluoresces. It's about 9 ins 220 mm tall. Oval polished pontil.  The opal tears go under the frill at the top rim - is that what is meant by rigaree btw?

any ideas?

Sods law this you think it's odd and doesn't work, I love it. The handles look Italian, but have a feeling it may hail from Bohemia. Whats it like for wear Lynne?

It's kind of like its got too many styles going on, eh?  I'll be interested to see remarks - I like it too.  :D

Rigoree is an applied "ribbon" of glass which is then crimped or pinched to make a decorative finish usually to an edge.  I have mostly seen it on the bottom edge but no reason why it should be elsewhere.  Emmi

The base has the outside of the oval with reasonable wear, then that sort of concaves in a bit, then the oval polished pontil is in the centre. These two ovals are not touching the table, so no wear there.  Outside clean, just a few very small light scratches, rim smooth, no damage.

I thought it was Italian also at first.  I posted it here and Ivo told me he thought 19th C. Bohemian, possibly Moser but no guarantees  :lol:

My photos are a light or overexposed but the glass is a deep green with 3 pink handles with gold dust in them.  I wouldn't classify it as aventurine because it is gold not copper and very fine particles.

If you look at the last photo you can see the recessed polished pontil and the wear to the outer edge.

Hi Connie,
yes, the handles are very similar.  However on mine, they don't have any aventurine, they have an opalescent coating, and look as though they have copper particles in them because they are refracting the copper in the green body.  At least I think so, I have tried to look upside down so that I am not looking at any part of the body through the handles or the tear drops, and I don't think there are any particles in them.

The copper aventurine is in huge smudges in the green body of the vase.  Maybe Ivo will come along to tell me if the Bohemians used aventurine/copper powder in this way.
