I was flicking through the pictures on the Glass Galleries and I noticed that Tigerchips has 3 pictures with "Krosno, Poland" for items similar to one of mine where I had stuck a bit of paper with "Jozefina, Poland" in it. Can't recall where I came across that info but it got me wondering what it really is.

I think this is opal glass as it looks pale blue until you hold it up to the light, then it looks creamy orange.
I'm not even sure what they're called, I've seen them described as cocktail glasses and also as sweetmeats.
Perhaps somebody will be able to answer both bits!
Thank you

Hi Cat,
There is one similar here (http://www.jozefina.pl/20E.html)
Jozefina glassworks is one of many in Krosno, Poland (as far as I know anyhow).

Ah...........so it's sort of both but specifically (having looked at the link) Jozefina. Thank you for the link - I have added it to my favourites.
So many mysteries...............so little time.

http://www.krosno.pl/?l=en&node=165 for details on different glass factories; usually we only call items made by the Krosno Glass factory "krosno".

Hello Ivo, Many thanks for the link - I've added it to my favourites as it's a site I think I will be needing again. I understand what you meant and I will stick to Jozefina for my little bit of glass. Kind regards Cat

I have a small collection of glass from Kronso. These are common in my area but well worth selling or collecting as they seem to be very popular. I remember the bigger one's priced at around £30 (new) from a shop called "Collectables" in Newcastle. Some may, or may not, bare a "Cello" sticker (My memory is very poor) but I haven't been able to figure out who that is yet.

Hi Tigerchips..................they are a stunning group............especially the shiny red one! The last one looks like one I saw on the Jozefina website link above.
I have seen some modern ones that have been made so that a tealight fits underneath the bowl, so they are clearly oil burners for aromatherapy oils. These ones are no good for that so the question still remains......exactly what are they called??

Isn't this called a tazza? (Plural tazze presumably, if it's from the Italian.) A tazza is a usually stemmed shallow bowl - related to the French compotier I imagine. I would think it has a classical origin....for grapes, wine, etc. ?? Then maybe it's been reinvented through art nouveau somehow? I posted one up recently (Aug 8th) when I still didn't know what it was and thought perhaps American (having bought it there) - it's now on

I got no responses - someone thought Italian - so I am pleased to learn all this stuff about them...

As a buyer I'd rather see a photo of the item being sold rather than someone else's picture of a similar item. Don't know what other buyers think though.

I agree Anne. I doubt that Lilian's item will be exactly the same as Tigerchips' one anyway. :)

That's a compliment to my photo, thanks. Feel free, I'll not be selling mine on ebay so no complications, er, I think.
Is it exactly the same though as I'm sure each one would be different every time it was made?

Thanks for the replies....
Love the glassmaker pronunciation site Anne...
I will take my own photos, though it looks exactly the same..have another one "somewhere"
Will put some glass in the gallery....

I found this candle in the shape of a flower sticking to the inside of the bowl but I'm not sure if that's what it's suposed to be used for.
