Post by: scavo on September 17, 2011, 03:22:12 PM
Greenish-blue/lilac neodymium/alexandrite glass vase, changes colour depending on light.

Czech?
Maker?
1960s?

As usual. Any comments are useful. Thanks in advance.

You asked about the rim finish elsewhere but possibly best answered here. This piece is blown into a mould and possibly had handfinishing after including heating the rim and possibly even shaping it there, so the lip has been 'spread' slightly as part of the shaping process and is not a safety lip/rim.

Cheers Frank,
I am assuming that the pattern all over the vase was in the mould.
And then, whilst still hot or reheated to further model the neck?
Then, heated to form the 'bead' around the lip.

As you are the man for Czech glass I am now thinking this is not Czech?

It looks quite Belgian to me.

I am mostly Scottish and glass technology... not much good on Czech really!

I'm still struggling with IDing this one. There are similarities to Alesterfors textured vases in that the textures pattern continues on the base rather than being plain.

I have seen an amber brandy glass with the same kind of pattern as this with a "Lavorazione A Mano Fabbricato in Toscana, Italia" label. I believe it is a Stelvia label but as always not 100% on that.

I have seen neodymium glass by Stelvia so maybe worth a look in that direction.

Thanks, Tigerchips.

It would not surprise me as much of the glass I find locally is Empoli. Off to google your tip.

I went straight for the Neodymium by Stelvia.

But yes, that is a match on the pattern. Thank you for your help.
