I bought this vase because it looks to me like a variation of the Stevens & Williams 'Osiris' range, made with the 'pull-up' machine patented by John Northwood I. Only this one is not a satin finish, being cased in clear glass. And it doesn't have the word 'patent' on the bottom :-\ But it certainly looks to me as if it was made in the same way, on the 'pull-up machine described by Charles Hajdamach on pages 281 - 283 of 'British Glass 1800 - 1914'.
Anyone agree? Or have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Is that the one that was on ebay the other day? It's lovely
-
Yes, that's the one, Christine. Sadly, it's NOT 'Vaseline opalescent' in spite of being described as such >:( I tried to get any sort of glow from it, but not a thing! :( However, I'm pleased with it in spite of that.

;D
It definitely belongs in the garden, amongst other really big, bright, totally OTT flowers!
(I've just been reading a Chihuly book.....)

There's a rose in my garden which would look perfect in it! ;D 8)
To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't say I actually like the vase (although I do like the rose! :D ) but I am fascinated by how it must have been made! I think it's really very clever.
Charles Hajdamach was talking about the S&W Northwood 'pull-up' machine at the 'Window on Whitefriars' day, and when I saw this vase I was sure it must have been made that way, so I just had to buy it to see in detail! Of course, if it had been 'Vaseline opalescent' that would have been a real bonus, but still ::)

Osiris was the reason I was after it,someone beat me to it ::) ;D ;D

Oops! Sorry Keith (NOT! ;) ) :-*
You obviously agree it might be related to the S&W 'Osiris' range too then? I did wonder, on reading Charles Hajdamach's description of the process, if this one might be an early attempt using the pull-up machine but before the 'Osiris' range was put into production.

Leni I watched it as well :) It's beautiful colours and a gorgeous pattern. What is the pontil mark like please?

The pontil mark is a very rough and quite sharp ( :o ) blob of clear glass!
Pic below.

It's a lovely thing, but I would say not S&W having looked at the book. Maybe not even English
-
my thoughts when watching it were that it might be Bohemian and possibly Welz ....maybe? But I don't really know, they usually finished their pontil marks well. That was just the first place I would start looking, as they were very fond of these pull-up designs.
I absolutely love all the colours Leni....no not vaseline maybe but really great combination.

I'd agree probably Bohemian, would still have liked it S&w or not ;D ;D
