Title: Help Please! 4 pieces of Ihag glass, Helpringham Lincs.
Post by: BJB on November 25, 2005, 02:07:59 PM
Well these four pieces of glass really called to me yesterday and I left a bid and now they are mine

They are really lovely especially the bowl, and I would love to know something about them and who might have made them. I have Googled both Ihag, and got a load of Norwegian sites, and Helpringham, and got a map and local info but nothing on glass, so I am assuming that it was a local glass blower/crafts person who made them, (rather like the glass blowers at Edwinstow).

Three have gold labels on the bases and all are dated 1986

Hi, I could not find anything either.

I think Adam Aaronson might be able to help you.

Pure guess-work, this might have been some-one who may have worked for Stennett-Willson, at King's Lynn/Wedgwood, given the short drive down the A17, between the two.

You might also talk to the Craft Council's library as they may well have archive material, or other useful knowledge.

Nice buys.

regards,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Will look into that next week, and try and find out some info. The work is of a really high standard and the colours are great.

As you say, it may have been a glass blower from Kings Lynn who was "moonlighting"

Hi Peter,

I have tried to get a better picture, but Santa has a better camera on his list!

The label says,

IHAG, Glass Blowing Studio, Helpringham, Lincs, and then a phone number.

Hope this is helpful

OH !
Yes it is helpful ....
I was thinking along the lines that Hepringham may have been the name of an importer / wholesaler. So that puts paid to that idea.

Have you tried calling or at least googling the tel no. ?

As suggested elsewhere thread being appropriated.

I have asked Adam A, for help, but whilst Adam is considering the query....

Please can anyone else with good knowledge of UK studio glass, suggest any Japanese glass artists, known to have been working in the UK in the mid-1980's? Lincolnshire CC arts officers, have been some help in identifying the fact that the studio was set up by some-one from London, but who brought in a very skilled and talented Japanese artist, to work at Helpringham.... Sadly names or any more details have not been forth-coming, as yet.....

TIA,

Marcus

Reviewing some of the very oldest topics on the board and found this one from 2005, which seems to be the only topic on the IHAG glass blowing studio, and even searching Google isn't bringing anything else up about them. Perhaps someone has come across them and can tell us more about them please?

Barbara, would you happen to still have copies of the photos to add back in please?
