Post by: keith on December 08, 2010, 03:16:21 PM
Two of the six mentioned in David's book, first I've seen and a plate I remembered seeing, page 95,as a possible Danish maker, only when I got back did I realise that this one is in colour,larger,9 cm,and marked 'Langelinie Kobenhavn',Langelinie meaning park, pier in Copenhagen, please correct me if wrong, thought someone other than me might be interested ;D

I knew there was a use for this  :bf:

However, the Danish dish is very unusual and although colour, could be quite old. Quite possibly the Danish originators of this particular process. You should be able to see the separate screened colours used to create the effect.

Thanks David, the 'dots' that make up the image are quite clear, although my camera is not good enough to show them, the Butterfly plates are interesting with what seems like an enamel effect as you can see in the photo it appears 'raised' not something I've seen on other Chance plates.

What I meant was: there look to be three passes of colour (probably the black, 'bronze' and blue in that order), using different silk screens, so it might be possible to see how the colour was built up. Naturally, the more passes of printing, the more expensive it was to produce, and the more likely that it could be rejected due to errors. So they are not that common.

That's why I value the earlier colour screen-printed ones over the colour transfer-prints.

Right,so if I understand this each layer of colour is put down one at a time?

That's how many types of printing work.
