This is one of my favorite pieces. Not because it is so elegant, but because it looks like a deer caught in the headlights. I laugh everytime I look at it. The form and size is a lot like Barbini's 1960s creation for Weil. This deer is fat, though (pregnant?) and looks horrified at what life is bringing her way. It doesn't have a label, but I'm thinking maybe JI Co. Does anyone recognize our friend? It has a nicely finished pontil area -- round and polished. It's about 6.5" long.

Anita:
It looks just like Bambi in the cartoon Bambi meets Godzilla, you know the one where Godzilla's foot comes down and,,,,well you get the idea.
It looks too modern to be JI, don't you think?

I am not sure what age it is, David. The eyes remind me of those JI Co had on some of the clowns. The honey amber was used on a good many of the pieces. The sommerso reminds me of the tall cat that they do.
It definitely looks like it has seen Godzilla. I have to attach a face shot so people can see why it makes me laugh when I look at it. Oh, the horror! Maybe it just got the January power bill.

I wrote the seller to let him/her know the deer isn't a Barbini. The asking price would be a bargain for the Barbini deer, so I hope no one snaps it up, expecting a Barbini. I still think they're cute and probably worth the $99.

This deer has been watching the weather reports for Chicago and the mid-west, me thinks! :o :o :o

Seriously though, I hope the GMB members affected by these horrendous storms are doing all right. :X: :X: :X:

Me, too. The storms this winter seem like they've been worse than normal. I'm so glad Punxatawny Phil didn't see his shadow on Groundhog morn. Maybe this bad weather will be over soon.

The seller changed the listing. He sent a nice message that he had wondered about the deer. Probably the Barbini deer was the closest thing he could find in appearance. I don't know if it a JI Co import, but it does look like some of the other animals they imported. Thumbs up to an honest seller.

Yes, thumbs up to the honest seller!! Most sellers are happy to receive info and others, well, not so happy. I say honesty is the best policy.
